There was some discussion regarding FO still undecided whether to tender Irving a 1st or 2nd. Most, if not all agree there little or no question regarding his talent, yet the FO, for some reason can't decide. Last night my neighbor had an interest theory for the delay........he was willing to bet at least couple, maybe more, teams have called the Cowboys inquiring about Irving and they KNOW he'll likely get an offer on a 2nd round tender. Thinks the delay is they can't decide whether or not they wanna keep him with a 1st round tender or lose him with a 2nd.

I think he's a headcase anyways, the PED suspension, and sadly the concussion problems, plus we can't sign them all when it comes to Lawrence/Martin/Irving, so if you can get a 2nd for him now, I'm all for it to be honest.. I think he's definitely the type of guy, when the $ comes, the motivation is gone and he'll have a fast decline.

Yes, if they give him the 2nd round tender, they will expect him to get an offer.

Keep in mind they can match the offer if they want to keep him.

They want him gone. They're trying to decide if anyone will go for the first-round tender.

They won't. In fact, I doubt anyone will jump on the 2nd-round tender either. His reputation precedes him.

This at least to give some logit for

THAT, apparently what they're struggling with...........

Likely working on a short term contract for him. Great be him some guaranteed money now. Instead of later or not being able to afford him.

Hey, it's the Colts...listen we are going to sign Irving if you 2nd round tender him so you might want to do the 1st round to mess up our plans. Kthxbye.

Keep us abreast of what else your neighbor has to say.

A football player having concussion problems makes him a head case now?? One of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard. It was never his
And taking a bad supplement hardly makes a player a head case either.

Guy is not worth a second rounder ......... I hope someone gives us a second for him.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but if they did tag him at the 1st round level and he wasn't signed elsewhere, they'd have him for 2018.

And then, depending on the size of contract he signed elsewhere, they'd also receive a compensatory pick if he signed elsewhere in 2019?

If that's the case, I'll tag him for a year to have the player for 2018 - while he does his best to have a great season and get that big contract - and then get a comp pick for him when he leaves.

True but no question about his talent and he's avail during a weak draft for DEs

That makes zero sense.

Do you really think teams are gonna think "gee wiz, first round tender! That's too much." Instead of "let's see what they'll take in a trade?" This isn't about "going for the tender."

If they want to move on then you use a first to make sure you aren't losing him for too low a second. Not to scare everyone off.

Geez, this must be the 10th time I've explained this.

Can you trade a restricted free agent?

This is a "can't win/can't lose" situation, depending on your perspective. This is a case of us having to rely on the front office to do the right thing given their inside knowledge. We can praise/bash them on down the road based on our advantage of hindsight.

What the he!!, I was giving 3 separate concerns I have with him bud, I wasn't connecting him being a headcase to concussion issues..

The question there would be a second now or at best a 4th two years from now
If you want him tender first, if you want him exposed then a second

I thought "at best" for losing a free agent was a third rounder?

I believe that Arizona got one for losing Calais Campbell and I think Green Bay received one as well.

I would like confirmation on this as well, excellent question, and I understand your rationalization here.
I know there is some floating equation somewhere, nearly mythical, but by hand vote or math, there is an evaluation on comp reward,,, where it is written,, I have no idea, and neither does google.
