David Irving working his way back

I agree that if Irving comes back and is average a sack a game and Collins comes back and can be the Collins before the injuries, then this can be a dominant front 7.

I have no idea what kind of team Dallas will be this year.

The defense looks like it could be for real. If it is then it changes things. If it's about like it's been then we're 7-9 because the pass game is going to be garbage.

We desperately need a safety right now though. Heath is fine but opposite of him is shambles with Woods hurt and the depth is a joke.

Frazier is good for red zone situations but I don't want him in space.

Based on what I've seen from our 3-techs so far, we need him badly.

The only caveat is that Maliek Collins isn't back yet, either. Hopes that Ward and Jones would give us options are being dashed. Ross and Ealy played ahead of them against Cincy.

Collins was activated from PUP. He just has not had a full practice yet. They, as usual will work him back in slowly.

H-m-m -- I'm wondering if he'll don boxing gloves when he returns to DT!!! :omg:

As long as he does a Too Tall Jones impression on opposing offenses, then yeah, whatever it takes. :D

For you Youngsters, looks up his boxing career he year he took off.

Could it be because they're more expendable?? Trade bait, perhaps?? :D

Meh. Hard to build a team around people like him. Can't be counted on and sets a tone of unaccountably for the rest of the team. Imagine how Sean Lee must feel. He puts in all that work physically and mentally to be as ready as possible while others can't even be bothered to stay off suspension.

Sean Lee has let his feelings be known. And let's just say that your assessment is accurate.

It looks to me like Ward has all but disappeared now that the lads have come on. Oh, except for that 15-yard penalty the other night to keep the Bengals drive alive, I noticed him there.

And now Garrett said they don't expect Datone Jones to practice for a while. And I'm still waiting to see Tapper flash. My previous concerns about having to keep 11 defensive linemen are quickly fading.

What's nice is this team isn't reliant on Irving like we used to be. Gives us a lot more flexibility.

On the positive side. Looks like for week 1 the Panthers will be without both of their starting tackles and a guard. If we can't generate pressure in that game....it's going to be a long season.

Correct me if I am wrong, but D.I. looks like a bag of run over whoppers every year after his 4 game suspension which BTW he gets every year. But he always seems to be ready when it counts. I dislike the immaturity of thinking it's ok to dope it up, and believe you wont get caught, just like with R.G., but it's a changing world, and considering it's only a game for grown ups, I'm lightening my approach. But, that being said, I do wish these guys would weigh it all out before being stupid over what they know is illegal to start with, and against league policy on the other. I'm pretty damn sure, any or all of us would be fired over busting a test at our jobs, I damn well know I would. SO, I don't do stupid things and take chances. A solid, good HC would ensure of that same mind set....if we only had one.

And that's what way too many miss. Take any work group, not just football. Put it in our own work group. I'm sure everyone has been in a group that had someone that skated by; how did it make the others feel? How was the overall group functionality impacted?

Dude has some Dennis Rodman in him lol... great athlete, unique skill/talent, very distractible by off the field “opportunities “

On a scale of Aikman to Rodman, I give Irving a 3.5 at this point. I look at anything we get as a bonus at this point, we may not get a single snap out of the guy. But I agree with the others in this thread that our DL is going to be very good, I do like the idea of Irving coming back in week five and having to play all over the DL working like a madman to earn playing time.

Think about passing downs with DLaw, Gregory, Taco and Irving lining up and "pinning their ears back". THAT is fun to think about.

I don't read a lot into that, IMO Ross and Ealy are on the outside looking in so they gave them reps to either show something before being cut or show enough that another team will pick them up when they are cut. I really don't think it reflects the real pecking order. Brian Price was one of the last guys in and he is way ahead of both Ross and Ealy.

I don't know. In the first preseason game, neither Ward nor Jones looked particularly good inside. I thought Ross showed more in the later part of the game, which may be why he got the start. With Ealy, we just might be trying to find a spot for him since he hasn't looked good outside.

Neither of those players are competing with Price. Ross was playing 3-tech and Ealy came in on passing downs. Price is a run-downs 1-tech who is behind Woods in the pecking order.

his punching appeared to be more crisp than that of former cowboy too tall jones.

I get the feeling the other shoe is going to drop on this guy pretty soon. Like opening weekend, 10 game ban will be announced.
