David Nelson's Antics

I'm surprised just how little attention this is receiving. Maybe I missed it and there's another thread on this but Nelson's "victory lap" bothers me almost as much as Terrell Owens celebrating on the star at midfield.

I've had a day to reflect on how I feel about it and I thought that maybe after a few hours my opinion would change but it hasn't. If you want to give a ball to your girlfriend that's fine, do it on your own time after the game. To take a victory lap around 3/4 of the home team's stadium (AND publicly objectify your significant other like that) is pretty uncalled for. Especially when it's only the first quarter and you're already down by 14 points. I don't know if this was Nelson's attempted gridiron representation of an invading soldier claiming a wife from the conquered land but I think it's pretty obvious that he was playing to the cameras. Normally I'm opposed to the barrage of fines levied out by the league each week but in this case I hope there's a sizable portion of his paycheck missing.

What bothers me most is that a stunt like this was discussed earlier in the week which leads me to believe that his girlfriend had a pretty good idea that it was going to happen. If she truly valued her position as a member of the Cowboys cheerleading squad she should have told her boyfriend during the week that she didn't feel this was in her best interest. I want the players, cheerleaders and staff to feel as passionate about the team as the most dedicated fans. It irks me when I see players joking and yucking it up with the opposing team after a loss the same way it irks me to see this young lady proudly clutching the ball and preening for the camera while wearing a Cowboys uniform that's arguably more recognizable then the players uniforms. Jerry Jones has a reputation of being unreasonable but I give him a lot of credit for the patience he is exhibiting here. If it had been me, she wouldn't have made it through the game. I would have told her to hit the showers and clean out her locker at halftime.

David who? Mission accomplished...and now everyone knows he dates a Cowboys cheerleader.

No, no no...see you're confused. This wasn't a stunt done by a low profile player trying to increase his exposure. This was true love in it's purest form....

She aint going to be happy when she finds out he is nailing groupies in every town in the NFL.

Wait and watch. He will dump her soon.

she could say the same thing. :D

All kidding aside Nelson seems like a nice guy and they have been together at least according to what I have read for 4 years. Myself I saw nothing wrong with what took place

Really? You're bothered by this?

Sorry, I can't grasp that. I guess you're a better fan than me. I guess you think the girl should've been escorted from the stadium immediately.

Sorry my eye roller smiley face must of hurt you deeply.

Although I appreciate the free psychoanalysis you really haven't articulated why it was appropriate.

1. Why does an undrafted free agent WR feel the need to make proclamations to the media in the first place?

I see, so if he was a 3rd rounder from an SEC school it would then be appropriate.

2. Why would even the most established player feel the need to celebrate in the midst of a blow out?

Because he wanted to. Next question.

3. Is this the Hallmark channel or the NFL? Enough rainbows, butterflies and unicorns. Do your job, play football and act like a professional. My girlfriend and I work for the same company. I would never stand up in the middle of a meeting, jog to her seat in the conference room, giver her a big hug and hand her my laser pointer before making my way back to my seat. You are playing professional football (with emphasis on the word professional) so act like it. Pro's don't carry out a pre-planned celebratory routine when they are getting routed.

It's sports entertainment. And if you think there are really any relevant parallels between a sports athlete and the 9-to-5 job you're working, you're in worse shape than originally thought.

I personally didnt mind but if a Dallas player were to do that it would be a 15 yard penalty and a 50k fine.

Well said.

I have no problem with it at all.

It would have been funny if we would have had a retaliation of some sort. After Newman scores all defenders go hug a cheerleader, flags be damned we just routed them, ha.

But not a big deal at. It's only annoying because that's the only thing they are talking about from the game on news networks.

So let me get this straight after the Cowboys played their best game of the Tony Romo era and your upset about this?

The only thing that bothered me about it was. How little taste she apparently has.

No, it would not. If he were a 1st rounder or an established player that had some clout then maybe. There's a big difference between say Dez Bryant throwing an impromptu press conference and Kevin Ogletree doing the same.

That's the type of response I get from my 6 year old niece when she really has no excuse or reason to provide, so I'm going to assume the lack of substance in your answer means the same thing.

You're right. There are no parallels...because in 5 years he's going to be arthritic and unemployed while I'll still have my job. Good luck after football David. Don't worry, employers love attention seekers with Sociology degrees:rolleyes:

I'm thrilled with the win. The only reason I started this thread was because of how surprised I was that it was not being discussed here. Especially when comparing this forum to the majors sports networks. Had I known there were previous threads on the topic that had been deleted I wouldn't have even brought it up to begin with.

Nope. You would simply change your lament to "why would an established guy like him need more attention."

Funny, this coming from a guy whose boiled-down argument is effectively "why, why, what for?"

Your hurt feelings makes David Nelson smile.

Isn't that redundant? Sociology degree and attention seeking?

So you're psychic now too, what can't you do?

My argument is about as concise and clear as you can get. Let me restate it since you seem to be having some trouble digesting it.

When you are getting blown out you shouldn't celebrate.

We'll I'm glad I can cheer David Nelson up after that thrashing he and his teammates experienced yesterday.:D
