David Nelson's Antics

It was a romantic gesture to a girl he obviously cares about, and you need to take yourself less seriously. In my humble opinion, of course. That you have spent any time worrying about this is more an indication of how bored you are than it is an indictment of what he did. It wasn't about showing up the Dallas Cowboys. It was about making his girl feel special. Breathe.

Perfect view. /end thread

I thought he punished himself just by doing. He looked like a complete idiot.

Im also getting tired of watching guys like Alan Ball / Frank Walker do a stupid dance after they break up a pass.

It's football man. Save the goofy crap for the locker room.

They still lost, right?

I don't care. If it has no purpose, it makes him look like a fool, especially after a loss.

I thought it was awesome. He's from Texas and I don't see how it was disrespectful to the Cowboys at all.

I want the defense playing like they are having fun. Those pass deflections are a big deal. Maybe they aren't to you, but to most fans, and the players... yeah...

Rob has this defense playing with swagger. We aren't the talk of the town yet, but if Spencer ever shows up in the pass rush, it won't take long.

I'm surprised just how little attention this is receiving. Maybe I missed it and there's another thread on this but Nelson's "victory lap" bothers me almost as much as Terrell Owens celebrating on the star at midfield.

I've had a day to reflect on how I feel about it and I thought that maybe after a few hours my opinion would change but it hasn't. If you want to give a ball to your girlfriend that's fine, do it on your own time after the game. To take a victory lap around 3/4 of the home team's stadium (AND publicly objectify your significant other like that) is pretty uncalled for. Especially when it's only the first quarter and you're already down by 14 points. I don't know if this was Nelson's attempted gridiron representation of an invading soldier claiming a wife from the conquered land but I think it's pretty obvious that he was playing to the cameras. Normally I'm opposed to the barrage of fines levied out by the league each week but in this case I hope there's a sizable portion of his paycheck missing.

What bothers me most is that a stunt like this was discussed earlier in the week which leads me to believe that his girlfriend had a pretty good idea that it was going to happen. If she truly valued her position as a member of the Cowboys cheerleading squad she should have told her boyfriend during the week that she didn't feel this was in her best interest. I want the players, cheerleaders and staff to feel as passionate about the team as the most dedicated fans. It irks me when I see players joking and yucking it up with the opposing team after a loss the same way it irks me to see this young lady proudly clutching the ball and preening for the camera while wearing a Cowboys uniform that's arguably more recognizable then the players uniforms. Jerry Jones has a reputation of being unreasonable but I give him a lot of credit for the patience he is exhibiting here. If it had been me, she wouldn't have made it through the game. I would have told her to hit the showers and clean out her locker at halftime.
:banghead:

What's worst is the "logical" equating of Owens' contrived long established grandstanding nonsense. :banghead:

In the end...........It was a 44-7 BEAT DOWN. David Nelson left Texas just like the rest of his team. Beaten, Bruised, humiliated, and embarrassed.

No amount of showboating can make that FACT go away either. :)

Im not saying the play wasn't a big play. I just can't stand a goofy, and immature celebration.

If you want to have some type of intense celebration than im fine with that but to just start doing a immature dance like that is just dumb.

Go apply to be one of the stage Dancers at Cowboys stadium if you want to do that.

I thought... oh great another person with a "please look at me moment":ralph:

I'm getting old I guess but I just don't understand why the young folk have this need or appetite to be noticed...

there was a time when people thought discretion was the better part of valor... and that affection for someone was giving to that someone in a warm private moment and not made into a public production.

I'm not a young folk and I can't say I saw anything wrong with it. I think some people are getting bent out of shape over nothing.

I thought it was cute. I swear people on here could find something to be unhappy about in heaven.

lol I used to get bothered by Barbers chest thumping every time he'd run a few yards and our WR signaling first down after every first down. Talk about a thing that shouldn't bother you, but somehow it bothered me. I think it bothers me most when it happens and a play or two later someone fumbles the ball or drops a pass. It's like, spend some of that effort of celebrating on focusing.

I thought it was sweet, people need to lighten up.

Yeah I really don't have an oldschool mentality about a lot of things but celebrating like you just won the Superbowl and you're already in the club after you just made a 3 yard run really gets on my nerves.

I don't really care too much... but in this fine and flag happy league how was there no penalty there?

Because it wasn't a Cowboys player doing it.

If Emmitt Smith was still playing he would have taken his scoring football to her and gave her a peck on the cheek.

No he wouldn't. He would have kept the ball like he did with all his others and sold it in his store like the rest.

And he would have charged the cheerleader 150.00 for a picture with him.

:D

IMO, she should have chucked the football at his head when he turned around. :starspin
