The NBA stripped the T-Wolves of five first round draft picks, fined them $3.5 million and suspended general manager Kevin McHale for one year for tampering in player negotiation with Joe Smith. The Patriots did far worse and essentially lost one 1st round pick and 500K to the coach and 250K to the team. That is a slap on the wrist. The Patriots have so much talent, they aren't going to be impaired by losing one very late first round pick. Bill B. has enough money that a 500K isn't exactly bleeding him dry and I don't see his job security being threatened any time soon. Goodell didn't do enough to send a message. Sure, relative to Paul Tagliabue, he has done a lot but Tagliabue was worthless as a discliplinarian so that says nothing.

Yeah, the lack of a suspension and the loss of one draft pick (the Pats have TWO 1st rounders this coming year, so no big loss there) is nothing close to "bringing the hammer down" (unless it's a rock hammer).

And this after slamming Wade Wilson with a five game suspension and 30% salary cut after taking HGH while with the Bears. Way to be even handed there, commish.

I don't know what the Commish was thinking. Is he really that naive to think the 500K fine means more to a coach than being suspended 4-5 games? He should have been suspended. Anyone with common sense knows that players and coaches fear suspension more than fines. The commssioner was intimidated by Bellichek's legacy and failed to act accordingly

Yeah, I totally disagree with Goodell's statement yesterday:

"I specifically considered whether to impose a suspension on Coach Belichick," Goodell wrote in a letter to the team. "I have determined not to do so, largely because I believe that the discipline I am imposing of a maximum fine and forfeiture of a first-round draft choice, or multiple draft choices, is in fact more significant and long-lasting, and therefore more effective, than a suspension."

You know Bellichek's camp is secretly celebrating. They still have the 49ers pick next year and his lack of a suspension still makes the Pats competitive for a Superbowl which would have changed had he been supsended 4-5 games. I think the commissioner was intimidated

Not really-Stern let that joker ref work for EIGHTEEN MONTHS while they were (secretly)investigating him. Yeah-they NEW he was gambling, but they just decided to take the low "innocent until proven guilty but let's keep it under a rug" road.

To me, they're 2 peas in a pod.
