It is no longer curious the reaction that occurs across a fan base for any sport when a trade or a signing is made. It never fails that all the closet GM's come out of the wood work to either endorse or criticize. i guess it is just being a fan
BUT, with regards to the Davis signing:
1.for those concerned about the amount of the signing bonus; we are getting a player that has played multiple positions along the line unlike Steinbach, who could possibly play LT or Dockery who is a guard. In my opinion, as closet GM, that gives Davis more value.

2.with regards to his motivation or lack there of. Come on--he was playing for the Cards- the second worse franchise to the Lions in football! There season is generally over by game 6! It has got to wear you down.
To compare to a player on the Lions--Big Baby--who has incredible talent, and shows it early in the season when there is hope, but typically comes down with something like a nagging injury or the like and takes the remainder of the season off.
I think Davis has alot of the "so much bigger and talented than others all my life" syndrome. Much like 7 ft basketball players who get along thru high school and college by being so much bigger and talented than the competition that they don't develop the drive and skill set that a 6 ft 6 power forward does to survive.
Davis has the talent, no doubt about that, now it is up to the coaches and environment to make him take the next step.

the cowboys had to make this move. We couldnt stick a rookie in at RG or RT at the stage we are in competitively. It is always nice to develop your own talent and we are basically paying an 18 million signing bonus because the cowboys failed to draft capable OL in the past 5 years who should be filling this position.

Steinbach HAS played other positions. And was more highly ranked as a guard. Davis was classified as a tackle- and not considered a top one there. BUT there were very few tackles out there. If we wanted a pure guard with major mobility then Steinbach was the better choice. Steinbach is projected to be able to play all parts of the O line- though not likely be a whole lot better then Davis as a tackle- quicker, but nowhere near as strong. Against speed rushers Steinbach is probably better.

I made no secret of the fact Steinbach was the only Free Agent I was really hoping we would get.

It didn't happen. I won't dwell on it though.

I've moved on and am anxious to see if we can re-sign Columbo now. Once we do I'd like to see us focus on backup QB.

I think steinbach northern OH. He wanted to play for cleveland, much like Bentley wanted to last year.

I have heard that. Myself I would want to play on a winning franchise; the browns do not qualify. Hope Steinbach stays away from the Cleveland clinic.

Well he is a PROFESSIONAL and he SHOULD play hard every game no matter who he plays for, how their season is going or how much money (which is already millions) they make. Davis played lazy and unmotivated back in high school when I played against him and studied film of him and his team, at that time.

They should've resigned Columbo who really deserves what Davis got, Marc only gave up something like 4 sacks all season long and none before week 10 if I'm not mistaken. And you're right, if they'll learn how to draft O-linemen that would help Jerry save some money, which is something you'd think he'd be keen on.
