The "reach" crowd should love this.

The fist column is wher the were drafted and the 2nd column is the plus/minus on where they were actually drafted. A negative number indicates how much earlier the player was picked than he was ranked by CBS.

Keep in mind that the draft media put about 90% their effort into the top 50 to 100 players and don't really spend a lot of time debating if a player is a 4th vs 6th round pick.

What was the numbers on Green. And if I am reading this right Jones was expected to go 20th and Gregory was expected to 16th.

Value wise we did just fine with the first two picks. The Green one we did not.

This is about as odd of a year as I have seen with the "media reach". I know what we are fed is not what the NFL circles regard. But every year you see UDFAs that were highly regarded in the layman's rankings make it.

I think this is not that great of a class and teams are throwing PR to the wind and filling needs, not even caring about the perception issue.

If you know or have spent any time studying this prospects all year, even as a layman, you can see teams panicked a little bit and took players at certain positions of need. The OL especially. Havenstein and Jamon Brown are not great stud prospects, not in this draft or any other. But they are seasoned and can play right away. That is another aspect to it as well.

Green was ranked at 191 on the CBS Sportsline/NFLdraftscout board.

Please keep in my mind my fantasy that draft media puts about, oh...let me think of a number here...90% of their effort into the....hmmm....let's say top 50-7...no, top 50-100 players in each class.

Please keep that in mind.

Sorry I said that 1st column was ranking but it is the actual draft position. Yes, Jones was ranked 20 and drafted 27 for a +7 in the plus/minus column. Green was -100.

It's not hard to figure out based on everything that is written or said on radio and TV that the focus of the draft media is on the 1st round and the interest declines rapidly for any players that are not close to the 1st round.

Defensive lineman in the draft seem to have been greatly overvalued by the media.

We're in some good company in the reach category (Patriots, Seahawks, Packers, Steelers).

Right now I'm most interested to see Green in TC and preseason. Jones and Gregory you have a bit of a sense in what they can do in the NFL but it will be interesting to see how Green looks compared to Leary and/or Free

What I always find fascinating is all of the things teams go though to rank players and all of the hits and misses, yet the majority of the time the coaches seem to know as soon as the player is with them for a few practices if he's going to be good.
