Day 2 Senior Bowl Notes

It's not wishful thinking. Do you like Marc Colombo playing RT?

Would it not be good to get a potential Pro Bowl LT, who can play both sides and start off at RT, where he played at USC.

Do you like Igor Olshansky at DE?

I've stated that drafting Peterson at 9 would likely mean the end of Newman's time in Dallas. I do think it would be a mistake when Newman, I believe, has some good football left in him. The team is hurting up front, on both sides of the football, and Newman is going to buy you some time to fix the mess up front, on offense and defense.

The team is weak up the middle, on both sides of the football. Passing on a top DL or OL is not going to get you back to the top, imo. The good teams build inside/out and that is a fact.

Prince Amukamara has some big question marks, and I don't see him down at the Senior Bowl. Mike Jenkins didn't go to the Senior Bowl, and he fell, too. Only, Mike Jenkins is a 4.38 guy while Amukamara will do good to run in the mid 4.4s and has some issues in his game.

Olshansky is the only DE under contract.

By the way, Jerry Jones defended his comments about the CBs today and stated that Rob Ryan's initial review is positive.

The joke is some at Valley Ranch thinking that Scandrick was the best CB on the roster last year.

Hey, you like who like, I won't argue with you regarding that. I'm not even arguing with your logic regarding the team needs.

My only point is that Jerry has been known to completely go back on statements he's made plainly to the media.

Case in point (off the top of my head):

* The example I gave regarding what he said about the WRs prior to the draft last year....ended up drafting Dez Bryant.

* The week(s) prior to trading for Roy Williams, he adamently stated the Cowboys will not be in the market before the trade deadline looking for a WR....next thing you know we've given up a 1st, 3rd and 6th rounder + $54 million contract extension for Roy Williams.

Im fully expecting Jordan to be our pick if this continues, 9 is perfect for the quick rising prospect, but still just a little hesitant to fully love it.

I think Jordan may rank second to Dareus on Dallas' board, but I could be wrong. If Dareus goes in the top 5 like most project, Jordan may not make it to nine, because he is probably the next 5 technique and can fit in multiple schemes. It just depends on what teams want to do.

I read where Peterson is down to 211 and wants to be down to 204 by the combine. He's talking about being the number 1 overall pick and running a 4.2 at the combine. He states that he ran a 4.31. He talked to and worked out for a bunch of teams today but not the Cowboys.

My question to him would be this:

Why was his weight so high to start with? Scouts look at him on tape and are not sure about CB being his best position in the NFL.

If Peterson does run that fast, he's not going to get out of the top 5 in all likely hood.

If Peterson is gone, I think Dallas would choose the best OL or DL (for sure) over Amukamura. It wouldn't even be a question, imo. You can always draft a CB late in round one next year (assuming you win again) if you think you have to have one. You could reach for a player like Brandon Flowers if need be.

That isn't "wishful" thinking as realtick tried to portray. It's smart thinking.

I agree with you on the draft Jerry Speak, but he did go out of his way when he defended his CBs and went into detail. He defended his statements again today and backed them up with Ryan's initial positive evaluation. If you filter out the Jerry speak, you can get his message pretty clear. That doesn't mean that they wouldn't "look at a CB". He stated that, too. They should look at CBs. Get the best players.

I think OL/DL is going to be the best value at 9, not a CB.

Problem with these "combine numbers" are they are artificial. Players lose or gain wt to maximize their stock.

If Peterson's playing wt is 220 and he's 204 at combine running 4.25 I still don't care because he'll likely gain it back and play at 215.

Go with the films and body of work over past several years. That's your draft. Combine numbers usually are "fluff". Maybe good for projects.

I agree with you. Amukamara is considered to have better technique and is considered (by many) the more polished guy, but he isn't the athlete that Peterson is on the field and has some long speed and ball skills question marks.

I don't think Peterson is in Eric Berry's or Champ Bailey's class, but time will tell I guess.

War is won in the trenches.

Great DL covers up average secondary play. No matter how good a CB is, WR will get open if given time. Allows you to rush just 3 or 4 and drop eveyone else to cover.

Great OL makes average runners look great and give average WRs time to separate and give QB time to go through his progressions.

Fix DL and OL!!!

I agree with you.

This draft is the chance to get better up front.

It's way past time on offense for sure.

The interior is mediocre to poor.

The RT is terrible, but he can't help it.

LT is good to adequate.

DL...Obvious problem.

A big, strong, and athletic NT wouldn't hurt, either.

Baylor has an interesting guy to watch at NT. He was kicked off Penn State, though. This doesn't appear to be a good draft to find B.J. Raji.

So what happens in your scenerio if Dareus and Jordan go somewhere in the first eight picks and a guy like Peterson drops in the Cowboys' lap?

Outside of trading back, the Cowboys would be silly to go another direction if Peterson is the highest player on their board.

Whether you like it or not, CB is a need. It may not be need 1A, but it is a need; Newman will be 33 at the start of next season; who knows how Jenkins responds to last year's poor season; and Scandrick is Scandrick.

Outside of perhaps Alan Ball, who do you realistically plan to rely on for depth?

You glibly state "you can always draft a CB at the end of round one next year."

First, you don't know what the future holds. You're assuming we have no other positions of need to address next year. Second, back to the question of depth. If any one of the named cornerbacks gets injured, the already questionable depth becomes crap.

The depth in this draft is at DL and OL in the second half of round 1 and likely the early half of round 2. Corner
