Congrats to the team. Yesterdays win wasnt total payback for what they did to us last yr, but yesterdays beat down combined with a win Saturday night over them WOULD be.

Shutting out the Skins is one thing, turning around a week later and shutting out the Eagles in a huge game is something entirely different. Yeah yeah, so they may have left some points on the field. So did we.

I will continue to feast on my crow. I thought the team was done after the SD loss, and they have played the best 3 games they have played consecutively in a long time since then. Roast crow. Char grilled crow. Crow stew. Filet of crow. I think my next serving will some sort of desert version of crow.

1) There is absolutely, positively nobody that can convince me the Eagles "didnt try" or werent "interested" in winning that game yesterday. Had they needed Minnesota to lose to get the 2nd seed, I'd buy into that philosophy. But they knew all week what was on the line. NOBODY wants to play 3 road playoff games when the alternate is winning one last game, getting a bye and having at least one and possibly two home games to get to the Super Bowl.

2) With the above said, I see why the media believes that flawed theory. I dont think its because we won, its because of how easy we won. It COULDNT be because we're simply better than them, so they have to rationalize the win some other way. To his credit, Mr "no chance" Dungy didnt buy into that theory one iota, and in fact said Dallas would beat them next week too.

3) Yesterday we ran the ball 30+ times for a 3rd consecutive game. I could be wrong, but I believe we are undefeated in Wade's 3yrs when we rush the ball 30+ times. It still isnt a great running game because we dont string together enough "winning" rush plays, but its certainly better than alot of teams. And by the way, I heard ESPN's John Stashour mention yesterday morning that the team that leads the league in zero yard and negative rush plays is none other than the Vikings and Adrian Peterson.

4) Congrats to Tony Romo, you are a totally different QB now than you were the 3 previous years. He's broken alot of records again this year and by the time he's done, he'll probably own just about every team passing record. His numbers are outstanding, but its the numbers "9" and "1.6%" which might be the most impressive. That'd be "interceptions" and "interception %". His turnovers are WAY down and its a huge reason we're 11-5 and won the division.

5) Its time for the Jason Garrett hate to cease, its really past time. But after finishing 11-5 and calling plays for a team that just set a number of club records for total yards, and coaching up the guy we have at QB another level he deserves some credit. In addition to Romo setting a single season record for passing yards, we set a team season record for most games over 400 yards (8). Romo also set the record for most games in a season with over 300 yds (also 8), breaking his previous record of 7 (2007). They still need to score more pts, but when you are constantly controlling the ball for around or more than 35 minutes a game and rolling up 400+ yds almost at will, that has to count for something. We also posted 2130 yds rushing, the most we've had in a season since 2001. We fell 10 total yds short of finishing the season AVERAGING 400 yds a game.

6) After a mediocre start to the season, Wade's defense is playing at an elite level. It cant be ignored or discounted that we've played 5 games vs 4 of the top 5 teams in scoring offense, and in each of those games that team scored its fewest points in a game against us. (I'm not counting the Saints loss yesterday, because Brees didnt play) Back to back shutouts is an amazing accomplishment, if what I saw was accurate its the first time its happened since 2000 (Titans). We moved to 9th in total defense (yds) and 2nd in scoring defense. I think we would have won the scoring defense title but the Jets got to play a team that totally mailed it in last night. (we finished 14 pts behind them) We fnished 7th in the league in sacks with 42 (also, it looks like they did go back and correct the play by Scandrick last week, it is now a sack)

7) For those that thought drafting a kicker this yr was painfully stupid, your serving of crow is awaiting as well. David Buehler has had a DRAMATIC effect on field position. He set a club record for 29 touchbacks this yr and combined with the amaizng job McBriar did, they had a huge positive in terms of field position. Its even more important when considering we didnt force many turnovers.

8) I'm really wondering how they can put Colombo back in at RT over Free, who is playing at a very high level and is clearly a future starter for us. I know you shouldnt lose your job if you are playing well and get hurt, but Free has been an upgrade in pass protection IMO and his ability to move cannot be understated. The block 30 yds or so downfield yesterday on Jones' TD was just outstanding, and he also went all the way across the field to do it. Maybe they could use Colombo as an extra blocker in short yardage sets or something.

9) Anthony Spencer, DeMarcus Ware, Jay Ratliff and Mike Jenkins. These are 4 cornerstone players on defense. We are set for years to come with these guys.

10) If there is a player on our roster more under appreciated than Patrick Crayton, I dont know who it is. He finished with 37 catches for over 600 yards and 5 tds, plus he finished 3rd in the league in yds per punt return and scored 2 tds there. Even if you take out the 82 yd TD return, he still averaged right at 10 yds per return, which would have put him 12th. He came up big yesterday.

11) Yesterdays game was as poorly officiated as any this yr, and it was incredibly one sided. They blew routine calls like false starts (at least two were obvious on Philly that werent called) along with the obvious late hit on Romo. Their OL wasnt flagged for a single holding call despite McNabb just standing back there for an eternity on some plays, meanwhile we were nailed with 3 or 4. We had about 50 or so yds of offense wiped out on two extremely questionable holding calls on big plays by Felix Jones. Ken Hamlin would have probably had his first pick of the yr had it not been for an offensive PI that was ignored. Its sickening. That crew better not get a playoff game.

12) I still cant believe we lost twice to the Giants, and lost to the Broncos. If we'd have won 2 of those 3, we'd probably have home field advantage today.

13) Kevin Ogletree is gonna be our next great "find". I cant believe this guy wasnt drafted. He is way more polished than most late round drafted WR's and he's gonna be more and more part of our game plans in the playoffs I think. In case some missed it, Aikman was pretty blunt in saying Ogletree was basically a better player than Roy Williams yesterday. Cant remember what his exact words were, but thats basically what he was saying.

14) In addition to the before mentioned Buehler and Ogletree, drafting TE John Phillips is turning into a gem and he's gonna be a really good 2nd TE for us eventually. I just cannot believe how little impact Martellus Bennett has had in the passing game, and he appeared to drop another catchable pass yesterday. Bennett is still a very good blocker and maybe he is creating favorable matchups on pass plays because of formations, but I'm just amazed at how little he has done numbers wise. I really thought he was gonna be a big part of the passing game.

15) I guess a loss to Philly is possible this weekend, but I would be very surprised. The looks on alot of their players faces yesterday were the looks of guys who knew they werent as good as the team on the other side. We're better than them, and I think they know it.

I would not do it. Colombo is a better player, but who knows how rusty he is. If anything, I would work him in slowly, but it is hard to mess with the chemistry of the offensive line.

Don't forget he had his typical mindless penalty as well. Not pulling the trigger of that supposed trade is looking like a missed opportunity. Between Bennett and Roy Williams it is alarming how little each is contributing.

No credit to the oline?

The oline is like Patrick Crayton, it is underappreciated. Although they had a lot of penalties, they dominated the Eagles all day long. This was the real difference on the offensive side of the ball. You are eating crow on them as well, as you have been overly critical of them all season. We are a very good running team - we have been at the top of the league all season long. On the barber runs in the 1st series, the holes were absolutely huge. Protection was outstanding all day. The Eagles started run blitzing in the 2nd half and Barber got his usual dead legs/dancing going as the game went on , otherwise we would have run for 250 yards.

I would argue that putting Colombo back in would create a larger issue chemistry wise.

Great post. Mike Jenkins and Anthony Spencer has taken this defense to nother level. Rat and Ware carried this team last year but these two guys along with the heart of Brookings are the reason why we look more dominant on defense.

I am so excited about Doug Free. Not only is he solid is his pass blocking but he seems more athletic than Columbo as well. Whatever the case, it looks like we have a solid replacement for Flo or Columbo in the near future. Now if Brewster comes along we should have solid depth on the oline. I still would look into taking a Og/OT in early rds.

Good writeup Dave.

There was a point during the telecast where Aikman and Buck really focused on Roy Williams and Troy Aikman said that Sean McDermott, the Defensive Coordinator for the Eagles didn't even mentioned Roy Williams' name when asked about his thoughts about the Cowboys Offense. What killed it for me was when Joe Buck said that all Arizona wanted for Anquan Bolden was a 1st and 3rd, which we gave to Roy Williams.

It is time to take the training wheels off and let Kevin Ogletree loose.

Also, I agree that Doug Free should keep his spot. I know some believe you shouldn't lose your spot because of injury but I don't think you mess with a good thing. If he somehow starts to struggle during the Playoffs, then you have Marc Columbo but at this point, you just cannot miss with something that is working.

1.There's no way you can take Free out of the lineup at this point. Columbo MAY be a better player when healthy but he's not and probably wont be until next season. Also, why not just stick with your young future OT and let him get this valuable experience?

2.That post-corner option that DJackson runs is something to keep an eye on for next week. Hamlin basically has to guess which way to turn with Jackson coming at him full speed. If Hamlin makes just one false move and McNabb throws a decent ball, it's a home run. Expect Philly to take 5 shots using this exact route option. Hamlin did a solid job yesterday but the Eagles have to like their chances with Jackson vs. Hamlin 40 yds down the field.

3.As everyone has pointed out, Philly will blitz a lot more Saturday, especially early in the game to rattle Romo.

4.When Samuel sits in a zone he will ALWAYS jump on the pass route in front of him. ALWAYS. The Cowboys can use this to their advantage with effective game-planning.

I agree with all but #5. I think the Garrett criticism is entirely warranted.

He has one of the best QBs in the league and overall a very talented offense, but they just haven't scored enough points. They scored by far the fewest of any NFC playoff team. They have to be more efficient in converting those yards into TDs if they expect to go very far this month.

Good thread, I agree with everything....

Really really excited about the future of the team. We're continuing to pick up some really solid players late in the draft--I actually confuse Phillips for Witten out there and Ogletree looks like he's ready for a bigger role

just to add a few thoughts:
1.I couldnt help but notice how the Eagles receivers really seemed to pack it in mid game. Along with the tons of dropped passes, did you see Macklin's eyes on that pass attempt into the end zone? He was looking for Hamlin, with no interest in competing for the ball. And Jackson really looked like he didnt want any more mid third quarter! There has always been that concern that he is too slight to have a prolonged career without injury and it certainly looked like the life was taken out of his legs.
2.Wasnt it nice not to hear Flozells name associated with any penalty! Tip of the hat to him.
3. I am getting sick of the media claiming the Eagles will certainly come out with a better game plan next week. Hey what about us? You would have to be a fool to assume that the Cowboys wont make any adjustments as well but that seems to be the focus. The play of the game was Barbers 30 plus yard run off tackle. That gash I think set the Eagles into a semi conservative mode with the blitz.
Any perceived success in the second half with blitzing had to be tempered by a more conservative approach by the Cowboys offense as well.
I dont know about you but after we hit 17 points I had utter confidence that the Eagles were not going to be able to catch up given the level of play by our defense
