Huge win yesterday. The season wasnt over with a loss, but historically once your 0-3 your a good bet to be sitting home in January.

1) Props to Wade and the entire coaching staff yesterday. After two lackluster efforts and poor preparation in general, yesterday was a really solid effort. The team was ready to play and responded to whatever it was they did during the week. Hopefully the same sense of urgency the coaches (and players) displayed yesterday will continue.

2) I said it yesterday and its worth repeating today, we have the best trio of WR's in the NFL right now. Roy Williams is a different player this year. THIS is the guy Jones thought he was trading for. He had a great game and is having a very good season. Dez Bryant has superstar written all over him. The long pass that didnt count was a sensational catch, and it should have drawn a PI call. Miles Austin is already a superstar.

3) After Romo appeared off to me last week, he was really on yesterday. There were really only one or two off throws the entire game. He brought the A game yesterday. Appeared to have more zip on the ball, and the ball seemed to have more of his trademark spiral to it.

4) I dont know what it is, but I hate the Texans. I cant stand their team or their fans, and I dont even live there. Some of the junk they said was just really comical. But hey, you guys got that Governor's Cup.

5) Do we really have idiots in this forum who think DeMarcus Ware and Jason Witten are overrated? How many posts were there this week of people genuinely HOPING the team would lose? Some days I come here and read some of this stuff and cant believe how incredibly moronic it is. There's alot of good posters here and some are really knowledgeable about the game, but alot of the good is offset by the pinheaded threads/posts that we have to weed through.

6) What a bunch of goofs that officiating crew was yesterday. That head official is the epitome of what I think of when picturing NFL officials right now. They missed a ton of stuff during the game too. Bryant should have gotten a defensive PI on that long catch he had, and the refs blew the call on his TD too, there should have been an offsettting call for illegal contact because the Hosuton DB looked like he chucked Bryant out of bounds well past 5yds.

7) Buehler nailed two field goals, very encouraging. That said, he is kicking hurt. Maybe someone can remember the details, but wasnt there a story about him hurting himself late in preseason or training camp? The guy absolutely destroyed the ball on kickoffs during most of preseason. I think he only had a couple of kickoffs that were retornable all preseason. Most were 5-8 yds deep in the endzone. He's still getting it to the endzone or just inside, but its not booming deep into the endzone like it was last yr or especially in preseason. I think the bye week will be good for him.

8) Janikowski missed 3 (albeit one was from 58) including a chip shot game winner. The Saints kicker totally gagged on a 28yd FG and REALLY cost them a game. Surely the coaches of those teams must cut those guys and find replacements asap.

9) I think the bye week coming early is going to end up being good for us. We still have alot of guys nicked up or playing through some stuff. I think the staff can also look at these first 3 games and start making some adjustments to the schemes and the personnel groupings too. One of the major adjustments I think they have to look at is Brooking and James playing so much in pass defense, especially Brooking. Hopefully Sean Lee is getting closer to 100% and can get alot of practice time in for the nickel, we need him.

10) Hopefully Kosier is ok, but this is another knee injury for him and he's in the last year of his contract. Holland has performed very well IMO, but if they find out Kosier is going to miss significant time today then maybe its worth making a call to New England about Mankins. Holland will also be a free agent I believe too and Davis has been ok, but not much better than ok. Guard is gonna be an area of need. I wouldnt give up a 1st rd pick for him, but if the price was a 2nd or perhaps a player (maybe one of our DE's or Tashard Choice) and a pick (middle rounder) I'd think about it. The Pats need defensive help bigtime.

11) A few disappointments for me after 3 games (other than the record): FS Alan Ball, who's been a 100% clone of Ken Hamlin on the field. DE Stephen Bowen, who appeared ready to take the next step but has been mostly invisible IMO. And Anthony Spencer has been decent, but he was another I thought was really going to take that next step and maybe get into that extremely good/dominant class of OLB. Still plenty of time for these guys to pan out, and I'm not worried about Spencer. But in the case of Ball, I'd start looking at other options if I was the team. If they dont make a play for Mankins, maybe finding a FS is an option.

Read Vela's breakdown Spencer's play on the goal-line stand by Dallas.

I did, but I want more pressure and hits on the QB from this position.

He got off to a slow start last yr too and really came on, so I'm not all that worried. But he should be getting to the passer more IMO, especially considering who the guy is on the other side that draws tons of attention.

I noticed the same thing this game, but he has a lot of responsibility in coverage as well. Spears had a pretty good game though in the interior, he should get some props.

One thing I noticed though, we gave up some run yards on defense on cut-backs that gained some first downs, which definitely should not have been.

Yeh they gave up more rushing yards and some bigger lanes than we would have liked, though I wonder how much of that was because of whatever scheme they played to stop the pass. The run defense had been really good the first two games, so I'm not overly concerned yet. We'll get a great gauge on how good (or bad) the run defense is the next two games against Chris Johnson and Adrian Peterson.

Bingo.

BTW, great post. There is going to be some shame faced mediots and so call fans alike. I am at work early ready to blast my manager and co workers. My manager took a limo to the game and gave me some last minute ribbing on Friday. Pay back is going to be sweet.

Spencer played better than you gave him credit for and it appeared that for some strange reason the Texans feared him more than Ware. For example, one of Ware's sacks came off of a bull rush over the TE, they disrespected Ware and paid the consequence. They chipped Spencer more and never singled him up against a TE.

FS is a major concern IMO. As I've said, at least with Hamlin, there wasn't too much confusion in the defensive backfield. I'm not saying he was good but Hamlin was a key component to bottling up Philly's deep passing attack 3 times last season. I dont think Ball can carry that assignment. We'll see...

I think Spencer has been a bright spot on the offense. I feel like he is always around the ball and trying to make a play. Goal line stand was a big part of why we had the momentum and he was a large part of it.

I don't see it that way.

The offense was out of sync in the beginning but that can happen. What bothers me is that the offense sometimes looked lost. That happens usually because it isn't well prepared. That fits well into the picture i am (still) getting from Jason Garett as a OC.

The Offense settled in after 3 series and before that i was really scared that it could be on it's way of breaking apart. That they were able to settle in and find some self esteem was mainly because of the good play by the defense.

You can't argue with our Defense. Players seem to be well prepeared most of the time and we really do find a scheme for every opponent. We are very flexible. I like the way our defense is coached. I can't say that about our offense. Our offense often looks not well prepared. It is out of sync and doesn't get a chance to get in sync by the plays called. A lot of plays that are called are headscratchers to me. The offense isn't very flexible when it comes to play into weaknesses of the opponend. That'S also a part of good game preparation and making a good game plan. Garett also doesn't seem to have a good feel for the game or game situations. To me this game was a good one for the offense because they scored some points. Did they look good to me all in all and do i have faith in them to be able to repeat ? No. ANd that has nothing to do with our players.

I hope we can build on the win I don't like the bye week for us at this point but i think a good team doesn't bother with those things. And a good team is what Dallas wants to be.

Yeah that catch Spencer had for a TD was amazing.

;)

By the way, can a MOD edit my OP to erase the Folk miss? I have found out it was actually blocked from over 50 yds. ESPN originally had it as a 30-39 yd miss.

How were they out of sync on the opening drive? They had 11 plays for 48 yds and by-passed a FG opp to go for it on 4th and 2. They called a good play, but Houston has to be given credit for making a great read and jacking up the screen call.

The next series was 3 and out, but the 3rd series was a TD and the next series was a FG drive.

I think we have better options on the roster already in McCray and Church, but I agree. I was one of Ball's biggest supporters in the off-season and so far he hasn't really shown any of the ability that I thought he would at FS.

Hopefully he can turn it around in the bye, or maybe McCray or Church or even AOA can usurp the position if they're better.

Great analysis.....one thing I'd like to see is Felix getting more touches. I know Barber is playing well but I think Felix should get more than 7 touches. He averaged 6.1 ypc!

He (Jones) did catch a screen and turned it into a huge play, although it was wiped out by Austin penalty.

The coaches arnt going to be thrilled with Barber's fumble in the 4th qtr either. I suspect Jones' carries are going to start going up quite a bit.

My biggest regret is that now we are out of the running for the #1 overall pick!!!

Probably the same idiots who still think Jerry is a great GM and owner.

Marion Barber, healthy, has been a beast this season so far. When he gets some good running lanes, you can go ahead and mark him down for 5-yard gains.

Problem is those running lanes being there. Leonard Davis had a huge whiff yesterday, but he also had another where he pulled around to the left side of the line and blew someone up in the hole, opening up a huge gain for Felix.

He is a great owner. Not sure how anyone can argue differently.

Great GM, yeah thats debatable. But he's made good decisions for the most part since he hired Parcells.

4 catches, 72 yds and 0 tds.

IIRC we need him to catch 39+ to upgrade our pick. He had his best game yesterday, catching 3 for 57 yds.

Dez Bryant has 14 catches for 158 yds, and the great punt return for TD as well.
