I continue to be amazed by the reactions of this place. I'm not sure what some people expected. We all want to see a win every game. But you geniuses post thread after thread about how 95% of the players are garbage, the coaches are garbage and the owner is garbage, then are genuinely surprised we dont win a game. I bet if we had a poll of every eligible person this forum before the game, at least 2/3 would have said we were going to lose the game. Alot of those people probably would have said we'd get run off the field.

At 1-7 this team was an utter disgrace, arguably the biggest trainwreck in franchise history. We could EASILY be 5-0 under Jason Garrett right now, and we've done that despite using a 38yr old backup QB for everyone of those snaps. The two losses we do have were by 3pts each to argubly the two best teams in the conference.

1) I'm 110% sold on Garrett as HC, and I hope Jones is too. This doesnt even remotely resemble the team we saw under Wade and I have no doubt in my mind that if had been the coach since day one this yr that we'd probably be in first place even with Romo's injury. I'm really excited to see what he does in terms of his staff once the season is over. I suspect a massive overhaul is coming, especially on the defensive side of the ball.

2) The run defense had been really good since Garrett took over, and for the first two and half quarters of last night it was outstanding too. Then McCoy popped that long run. Not sure what happened on the final drive, but the run defense failed at that point. Part of the issue is most teams would play 8 or 9 men up in that situation, but our 8th and 9th guys are Sensabaugh and Ball, who are awful in run support. I think last night was the first time we REALLY missed Marcus Spears, who despite the constant hate on this forum IS the best DE on the team. He's a better player than most of you give him credit for, and its easy to see why Wade and the defensive coaches kept him in the starting lineup. I'd like to see us keep him if possible. Olshansky can go away.

3) I see alot of railing away on T New. I guess I shouldnt be surprised, since he gave up a big play on the first play of the game. But that was pretty much it. Jackson had 4 catches for 210 yds, and 91 was on that catch & run when Jenkins just missed the defelection. One of Jackson's other big playss came when Sensabaugh blew a coverage on Jenkins side of the field. Other than that, the Eagles had a TOTAL of 12 catches for 60 yards.

4) Really saw the effect of losing Dez Bryant on punt and kickoff returns last night. McCann and Ogletree were both pretty bad. The Eagles also caught a big break by not having to play against him on defense. They doubled Austin all night long. They even doubled Roy Williams some. Thats why you saw so many throws to Witten and Bennett.

5) For those crying for more long passes, the few attempts Kitna did throw down the field should be further proof of why we arnt seeing it more. Bennett was wide open for what would have been an easy score (wouldnt have counted anyway, as they flagged Gurode) but Kitna underthrew him. He also threw a couple others that had no chance. That said, I think the coverages dictated alot more of where the passes were thrown than anything else. I rarely saw Philly put 8 men in the box, and alot of times they seemed to be stopping our run with just 6 guys up. They were constantly running LB's out into space downfield.

6) I really think sticking with Buehler is gonna pay off for us down the road. He's kicking really well. He's 18/24 now, and is actually 3/4 over 50+, the one miss being that 59 bomb that he just missed on.

7) I dont see the need to say much more about what Choice did. The people that are in love with him see nothing wrong with what he did, but it was a bush league move and might ultimately be his ticket out of here. I've never seen that done in 25 years of watching football. I think Jimmy might have cut the guy immediately if he was here.

8) The run blocking just has to be a priority in the offseason. Its not as bad as it was the first 8 weeks (nothing is) but its still not good enough. I suspect we'll see 2 new starters on the OL for sure, and 3's a possibility.

9) I guess Bob Sturm was the only one who agreed with me, but DeMarcus Ware was really good last night. He was all over and laid some big hits on guys when he got the chance. I thought Newman and Jenkins were both alot better than what people on here gave credit for. Spencer seemed a little more active to me. Bradie James was pretty good for most of the game too. I thought Scandrick had another pretty good game too. He's definitely a different player since Wade was let go.

10) Jesse Holley was credited for 5 special teams tackles last night. Now I'm not a ST stat guru, but I'd tend to think 5 in one game is alot for one guy. He blew the block on the punt block TD last week, but otherwise he has been pretty good at what they brought him up for.

The bottom line for me is we are seeing dramatic improvement. Not having Romo is a massive handicap for us and we're still playing solid offense and have had a legit chance to win every game since Garrett took over. Wtih an offseason to make staff changes and some personnel tweaks, I have little doubt we can be really good next yr.

This was a very good post (probably because I agree with it :) )

First, I entirely agree with you regarding Spears. I was thinking the exact same thing regarding Spears at that point in the game. I think one reason the DL got punished at the end of the game is that we don't have Spears (among others) for the rotation. I hope we do re-sign him to a "fair" contract.

As for the game in general, it's glaringly obvious to me, at least, that if we had even a reasonable running game last night, it would have really helped Kitna. Simply said, our OL, esp the right side, needs to be re-tooled. All of us know this, but we can't go into next season with the same set of guys and expect much better results.

I'm really impressed of how well the team is responding to J Garrett. IMO, he's earned this job. If Garrett could get a top DC and a few players, I think we will do very well.

After Wade was fired, I didn't think we'd win more than another 2 games the remainder of the season. I didn't think we'd even be competitive. I don't think many reasonable people would have expected what we've seen so far. Garrett has shown that the players can respond to coaching, that we are much better than 1-7 (under Wade), and that with some help on defense and a full off-season that we can be a very good team.

The two things JG cannot fix in mid-season are the OL and DL. They need to be in shape and have a attitude out of camp. Columbo needs replacing, but as for the rest, give me a new DC, new OL coach, along with a real TC, and see what we've got. No doubt we'd be in first if JG had the whole year.

That said, looking for upgrades is never a bad thing.

Oh, and by the way, attacking the outside might help our run game just a wee bit. jeez the egals were just collapsing inside all night.

Fantastic post, from a real Cowboys fan! I agree with everything you've said!

I agree with this.

My reactions:

You could see that this team really missed its two best offensive players last night (Romo & Bryant). Kitna looked like a backup quarterback last night. He wasn't too bad, but was off-target much of the time. Bryant's loss was felt both in the return game and on offense. He was a huge loss.

While I think the two OLBs were much more active last night, the defense's weaknesses were really exposed.

I didn't expect Dallas to win this game. I was shocked at the number of people who picked a 4-8 team over an 8-4 team.

They played hard, but the big weaknesses on this team (offensive line and secondary), and missing their two best offensive players was too much to overcome.

Kitna was under a lot of pressure so not surprised about his performance. The missing run blocking was very noticeable.

Spencer is still on my crap list. How much longer do we wait for him? After the last part of last season there should be no excuse.

Jenkins really needs to be hit upside the head. TNew tried to be assante an d found out what everyone should know: gamblers fail 2/3 of the time.

Our safeties were once again PUTRID. For those claiming Ball is getting better I did not see it.

OFFSEASON PRIORITIES are 2: O LINE & SECONDARY

yeah. Ball is worse than Hamlin. Sensy is toast. Our O line is sad.

It certainly appeared that the Eagles laid out the blue-print for Kitna. Hope he can recover with a strong game next week.

Be real! Fans should demand effort, and I've seen plenty of that since Garrett took over... which is not good. That says something about the players and they had lost confidence in Wade.

lol, whatever dude!

Now maybe it is me but has there ever been a season where you see the CB's turning around, arms out, seemingly confused as to what is going on presnap so much? Maybe I'm seeing things, or not understanding what they are doing.

Would you be satisfied with Krispy Kreme instead? I mean, we can do Kirspy Kreme if you want. It's all about holding Jerry Jones accountable after all.

Yeah, me, Mr. Schmuck who doesn't make $20,000 a year, is going to hold a billionaire accountable. I love that line of thinking.

I'm also sold on Garrett. This is a different team. They're so much more organized, disciplined, well prepared and they don't quit.

The defense needs a major retooloing, but as far as I'm concerned, Garrett should be the HC. Just need to dump a few rotten apples, get some new OL, and a better DC

These are what I feel are the key points you made in your post. #4 has a direct bearing on #5 as Dez and the running game not being there allowed Philly to play back in coverage and get pressure on Kitna. I think Kitna did exactly what we need him to do last night and that was give this team a chance to win. You comment about Romo not being there is an under-statement and a compliment to Kitna. I don't know about the rest that post here, but I for one am very thankful that Kitna is on this team. I also am starting to believe Garrett may very well be the man for the job:)
