At this stage I have all but resigned myself to the fact we will force a secondary pick in the first, particularly a cornerback.

This class is deep and instead of playing that reality to our advantage, I can see us getting overanxious, much like we did back in 2012 when we just had to have a cornerback for Rob Ryan. If Dallas is feeling frisky, they may go with a S, but not likely.

So that means the rush will have to wait and it will come in the form of at most a player or two.

Can't have standing room only in the meeting room, so you can only pick one and be happy with that.

Given these names, take your pick for day 2 and justify:

Derek Rivers
Demarcus Walker
Tim Williams
Tarrell Basham
Tanoh Kpassagnon
Dawuane Smoot
Joe Mathis

I like Joe Mathis depending on his injury that he had this year. I am hoping he will fly under the radar and be there for our 6th rd pick but I highly doubt he lasts that long.

You think the "pass rushers" available will be better then the corners? I don't.

I still think they would prefer an edge rusher at 28. However I dont know if they will get the value there. That more then need could drive a DB pick IMO

As far as day 2 rushers, I dont think they will look too hard at Rivers. I think they are going away from small school guys. Smoot makes alot of sense at 60 to me if he is still there. Potential RDE. A fit in a Marinelli type line. Coaching connections. Would also be good value at the pick

Unlikly IMO Unless someone like Barnett falls, or the fall in love with Watt or McKinley. I think value will likely drive a CB pick more then need. In there mind they have there top 3 CB spots filled, so they arent pressed

Hard to tell.

This is a deep class of rushers too, probably at least at a part in terms of relative strength. There are more corners to go around due to numbers but the quality of edge players is about as good as I have seen in recent memory. Usually you are lucky to have four or five good ones. This one has at least five-six that could go in the first.

Under that senario, would probably take Basham.
Walker would be a 5 tech here. So as much as I like him, cant see it.
Basham and also hope for a late rounder like the kid who played opposite Rivers ?

A big question is when do the runs occur, and how may of either go during that run. DE's and CB's are always hard to predict. Particularly CB's because teams need quantities of them and a team the you wouldnt think had the "need" can snatch one up. The Bengles are a good example of this. They always appear set in the secondary, yet routinely draft CB's high.

Its my guess that there will be a bigger run on DE's then CB's, but I could very easily be wrong. You could get a big run on CB's in the mid first, picking the first round prospects clean. All the while pushing a DE or two with a first round grade into Dallas's range. Also dont be shocked if a DE we like gets into the 20's and we start working the phone's

I'd like to see more of Basham...the lack of actual game footage on him is pretty odd. I can find like 4 videos of Shaheen from Ashland playing on what looks like a pop warner field, but there's 1 cut up of Basham.

Right now I'd say probably Rivers at 60. Trey Hendrickson and Carroll Phillips are also both interesting edge guys but probably later than 60. Honestly I have no idea what to think this team will do at DE. At this point it wouldn't shock if we pick 0 DE's in this draft.

well tim Williams is head and shoulders better than ALL those on that list.

in fact he could be the best pass rusher in the entire draft.

however, with the Randy Gregory fiasco I doubt he is on our board.

in that case I take Basham at 60

Corners make a lot of money. I always harken back to rookie contract value. What is even more scary would be a pass rusher they love at the top of round two they want to trade up for. This team needs more picks not less. Many talking heads saying there is little difference talent wise in this draft between pick 20 and pick 70.

agree.he is the best of the list in the OPs list, too bad he wont be drafted by us.I like Hall,he is overlooked by everybody but i think he has a chance to be a good starter in this league.

Would be nice to get three picks in between there.

Willis, anybody that thinks hes going in round 1 is lying to themselves.

Rivers, i would rather have his teammate moss.
Walker i would love in round 3.
Williams, hell no
Basham, is a SDE no. Dallas has Irving and Lawrence there.
Kpassagnon, Margus Hunt part 2. No
Smoot, Round 4, still like Moss over him.
Mathis, NO he is slow and is a OLB for a 3-4 on the strong side.

The two players I like there are Williams and Walker but Williams won't be there at 60. So give me Walker. Can kick inside on passing downs. Could even make a full transition to DT if need be. Versatile player with an edge.

Most won't like this but the Cowboys are already adding a mid round athletic rush end this year and his name is Charles Tapper. I guarantee this is the mindset of our front office and that will be a huge factor in determining who to select next month.

I like Carroll Phillips in the mid rounds as a pass rush specialist, he's got some of the traits we look for in our REs. Nice upside
