I live in the DC area so I get to Listen to Steve Cazban, Andy Polian, Brian Mitchell adn John Thompson with Doc Walker and Al Coken. While all were pretty harsh on the skins they show their apparent Homerism especially the Doc and Brian Mitchell. They both said that Newman is a nice corner but he is no Deion or even Shawn Springs and that he can't shut Moss down by himself because Moss is too good.

What the hell does Brian Mitchell know about defensive players (or offensive players for that matter)?

When he says something about a punt returner I'll put some stock into it, when he talking about CBs, I'll pass.

If Newman can't shut Moss down, then why didn't he have an impact on the game?

They are blaming it on Brunell. They said Moss and other WR's were open but Brunell couldn't get them the ball. They gave our secondary no love at all.

They blame everyone except Newman, O-Line, Brunell, Al Saunders, no running game, Joe Gibbs.

Until the last series or two...he only had one catch for like 7 yards or something.

That's what I call shut down...these funny funny mediots.

Right. ;)

Hey, we got after Brunell and made him look bad, but that's only one part of a shutdown.

These boys up here do love some ST, they don't even put RW on the same level as ST.

Brunell was double clutching all night, he was making his 1st read to Moss and actually was wise enough to pull back. He then had a guy or two open afterwards but doesnt have the arm to get it there

-Newman is a top 5 corner at worst

I'm not sure I disagree with their point.

I doubt there are any top shelf WR's that can be totally shut down without help at some level (safety over top, or pass rush) at least ocasionally.

I didn't particularly watch but Madden pointed out that Newman was indeed getting help over the top on Moss.

None of that should be a slam on T-New because frankly I think he is 2nd to few CB's in this league.

I guess it depends on your definition of "shut down" is. :D

They even say the ST owns TO and that TO wants no part of ST and doesn't have the heart to go over the middle against him. They excuse Rogers because he came from a Zone Scheme in college. Remember what most of the Dallas faithful were doing to Bledsoe last week, the Skins natives are calling on Campbell. The Mediots up here have guarded optimism for the game against the Texans. They think the Texans are worst then they are but have a good QB, I think it just sux that Houstan had to play the Eagles then the Colts or they could esaily be 1-1 or 2-0.

I agree with this. T-New has not been good long enough to be in Deion.
Same goes for Springs comparison, however he can be as good as Springs if he continues to play consistent IMO.

Thats funny because when springs came out they said he was going to be Deion V2.0 the one that could tackle. Springs is good if he is healthy. He is equal to Newman with Newman having much more upside and doesn't have that goofy lispy laugh either.

Al Coken had nothing but contempt after Gibbs' umpteenth "Things didn't go our way, but we love our guys, and we're sending tapes to the league office" presser this afternoon. Said the excuses from the top were contributing to the lackluster performance of the team. It was some of the strongest criticism of Gibbs I've seen outside of this here board...

At least WTEM (980) gets to voice a little dissent. Listening to Bram & Larry Michael on Snyder's station (might as well be "extremeskins radio") is like hearing from this guy...

As of 7:30pm, their hard-hitting "Commanders Monday" show was about to feature Brandon Lloyd's rap music.

I will say this, I see no way a Joe gibbs coached teams, at least I think he is still a coach there even though it looks like he just walks up and down the sideline and makes funny faces...anyway....no way a team coached by a man of his caliber should lose to houston.

Having said that, Carr has had two good games and Andre Johnson and Eric Moulds are very dangerous, in fact I believe they have the advantage on that secondary. If the Commanders dont confuse him and blitz him alot I think carr will have a good day.

The flip side to that is they will have to win in a shootout, I dont think the texans defense has a chance against the Commanders wr.

If I were a Commanders fan I would be very worried about the game in houston, you just got whipped on the road to your biggest rival and you have to go on the road again, in a situation where you basically cant lose. Then you throw in the fact that the team your playing is about two steps beyond desperate and it has disaster written all over it.

I am curious to see what the line is for this game, the texans are going to be 0-2, an underdog at home, they will have a full house and their qb and wr have been playing well against a team that is going to have immense pressure on the road with a poor secondary......The texans could pull this out.

This is a reason why I am worried about the trip to nashville in two weeks, I think the titans will be 0-3 and desperate as they can get and we have to go there after a week off. That is dangerous and very much like the raiders game last year.

anyone who thinks Springs is equal to Newman has no football judgement.
