Closer Look: Position By Position Breakdown Of Cowboys' 53-Man Roster

FRISCO, Texas – At long last, the Cowboys have a 53-man roster.

Now, obviously that’s just a starting point. An NFL roster is never truly finalized, and the Cowboys proved that on Saturday afternoon by trading a conditional draft pick for veteran corner Bene Benwikere.

The roster can and likely will change again before too long. But for the time being, here is a closer look at the Cowboys’ active roster heading into Week 1:

Quarterback (2): Dak Prescott, Cooper Rush – Rush was one of the biggest stories of training camp, and that is even more evident as the preseason draws to a close. The undrafted rookie was an afterthought a month ago, and now he is one of just two quarterbacks on the roster. Rush clearly outplayed incumbent backup Kellen Moore over the course of the last five weeks, and his efforts have been rewarded. Of course, the hope is that he won’t have to play at all, as Prescott is primed to build on his Pro Bowl rookie season. But if something should happen to Prescott, it will be interesting to see if the Cowboys stick with Rush or look for veteran help.

The least surprises on cut day that I can remember.

Benwikere over White is literally the only surprise to me and it's a very mild surprise.

I expected QB Moore to be cut but brought back when someone goes to IR which could happen tomorrow.

I like that roster...and look forward to the return of both defensive ends and a positive resolution involving Zeke Elliott.

Overall, good moves by the Cowboys. If a few changes, leave Moore home, Witten doesnt need to start every game, save him for the end. In fact start finding or grooming his replacement.

The defensive side will rotate the most, as i wouldnt do any trades for this year, ok they already have, i wouldnt stop any of the young guys and let the season unfold on its own.

If im a division rival, and moore is as football smart as advertised, though I do believe "ex players giving secrets of former team" idea is a little overblown, kellen seems like the type that actually could make an impact in that regard, id grab him.

Neal earned a spot IMO. OL is a concern if Bell is a top 8 player.
