Miles Austin Looks Ready To Play

It’s becoming rather clear that wide receiver Miles Austin will be ready to play this week against the Eagles. The third-year pro, who suffered a sprained MCL on his right knee about a month ago in Denver, has looked rather sharp all week, despite wearing a protective brace.
Austin has practiced all three days, including here Friday, with seemingly no setbacks.
One team trainer said this week he expects Austin to play against the Eagles, which was evident by the team releasing Mike Jefferson and putting him back on the practice squad.
The Cowboys will likely go into the game again with four receivers. However, a big question involves special teams coverage. The club did not use Isaiah Stanback in that area last week because he was coming off a shoulder injury.

At some point this season it seems that the Miles Austin bandwagon is going to get a big boost.

When, I'm not sure, but I think he's going to impact at sometime this season. Will it become consistent? I don't know. Gotta walk before you run.

But I'm ready to see Austin in action.

Good news. And I too doubt Austin will be on STs. Big boost here IMO.

Me too, he clearly outplayed our "third" WR in the preseason. I put "third" in quotes because I think Sam Hurd is going to be our "fourth" sooner rather than later.

Not that it matters much, both will see a good amount of playing time when healthy and Romo knows how to spread the wealth!

Come Monday Night against the Birds, Austin could be the X- Factor.

While I agree that all signs are pointing to Austin overtaking Hurd at some point, I'd shy away from suggesting that this would be anything but positive. While we haven't seen much from Hurd this year, most reports were that he has improved form last year. The fact that Austin has improved enough to overtake another receiver that has also improved is a very good thing. Parcells' may have been right about Austin after all...and I had all but given up on him before camp.:

I wonder if Garrett called any plays where the 3rd or 4th receiver was the first read? Did we have any 4 wr sets (not tes flexed)?

I think it'll be sooner than later. He was able to get past the defender on a fairly regular basis last year. His only problem was holding onto the ball. From the reports we've gotten through training camp and what we've seen throughout preseason, I think that area of his game's really improved.

I realize he needs to prove it when it counts, but I'll be mildly disappointed if he doesn't challenge Crayton for the #2 spot by the end of the season.

Excellent News!!!

Like I said eariler, Austin could be the X-Factor. Here is why IMO. The Eagles are going to try to take Owens and Witten out of the game freeing up Crayton and now Austin. I have a hard time imagining their LB's running with the 6'3 and 220LB Austin stride for stride.

Also guys, this puts the Eagles at a disadvantage because if the go into their Nickle-Package which means we will run Barber. They try to stop Barber by putting more men in the box, we throw the ball.

Bottom line, Eagles have to pick their poison!

Against the Eagles whom love to blitz, going four wide could help spread them out.

Agreed. I'm still not a huge fan of some of his route running but he really seems to have improved his focus on catching tough balls. I was at the Broncos preseason game and he clearly stood out as the best player out there (on our side). Eddie Royal looked damn good too and we have seen how that has translated in the regular season.

We've got our WR depth back! And a spread offense with some bite -- I agree, the importance of him coming back so soon cannot be overstated.

I dont know that he could be the xfactor, but his speed could be a matchup problem with the eagles. They almost exclusively put dawkins on witten and they double owens in a number of ways.

If they come after romo and witten is able to get out and not block, austins speed could be the means to a few quick scores.

IN the playoff game last year the giants blitzed on the second to last drive and romo had him 10 yards behind mcquarters, he just couldnt reset his feet and throw. It would have been a walk in 60 yard TD.

Hopefully that same type of look happens monday and romo gets it to him.

Its rare to see a huge difference in a player from one year to the next. I saw a huge difference in Miles this preseason. I really think he's going to do some outstanding things for us this year.

Should be fun to watch.

Well O.K. we can call it what you will, my friend, I think Austin could play a huge part in spreading out the Eagles Blitzing D.

I would hope he's not going to be too rusty from the layoff but it sounds like he's been running and catching very well in practice lately. Guess we'll just have to sit tight and hope it translates into live action in the Philly game. There's no question his speed could pay off in a big way Monday nite.

Huge news to see Austin back in the fold. I can't stand having to wait until Monday to watch the Boys play tho...

He better be ready to play.

I thought they moved Jefferson to the practice squad to make room for Bollinger.
