We still don't know when the NFL will release the 2010 regular season schedule, though indications are it will be in the next week or so.
So we'll be ready at DallasCowboys.com, we've already started compiling notes on the Cowboys' opponents. The order of the games is the only thing we're missing, but here are a few not-completely wild guesses.
*For the opener, I'm thinking Cowboys at Commanders. Fox color analyst Troy Aikman recently hinted to the local ESPN radio affiliate he had heard this might be the game. The Cowboys have been on the road for most openers of late, though they now they have the option of closing their stadium's roof to eliminate the heat, so that trend may disappear in coming years. But this gets a high visibility game out of the way while both teams are still guaranteed to be in contention.
*Expect to see the Cowboys playing the Bears on Thanksgiving Day. It's Fox's turn to broadcast this game, meaning it will feature two NFC teams. The network has a guaranteed audience for this one, so don't expect a premiere NFC East matchup. Outside the division, the Cowboys' only other home NFC opponents are Detroit, Chicago and New Orleans. The league will likely save that New Orleans game for primetime, and Detroit plays its own home game every Thanksgiving.
*Speaking of those Saints, don't count on seeing them in Arlington until December. The last nine Dallas-New Orleans games have all been played in December, dating back to 1990.
*Not counting the two nationally-broadcast preseason games, the Cowboys should appear in primetime five times. They'll get the maximum three NBC Sunday Night games, plus one ESPN Monday Night Football date, and a Thursday or Saturday night game on NFL Network late in the season. Combined with the Thanksgiving Day game, that'll be nine national TV games in the fall, probably the most of any team. There's also a chance a sixth game could get into primetime because of flex scheduling.
