It what might or might not be a move to create some leverage in impending contract negotiations, wide receiver Miles Austin has been working out with a trainer of his own this spring, rather than with teammates in the Cowboys' voluntary off-season program at Valley Ranch.

Austin has remained in touch with his coaches, so the move isn't necessarily seen as one of defiance. It could be that he simply prefers to follow a training regimen of his own choosing this year, as some other players have done. Running back Marion Barber, for instance, is working out at the performance center of former Olympic sprinter Michael Johnson, in nearby Plano.

While Austin could return to the team anytime, he's spent most of the first week and a half of the conditioning program in Los Angeles. Both he and the Cowboys have expressed interest in working out a long-term deal, but the front office hasn't offered further details.

Austin is a restricted free agent, protected by the highest-level tender offer, of first- and third-round draft picks. His deadline to sign an offer sheet with another team is April 15.

Not a big deal to me, I will be comcern when it is mandatory.

I'd like him to be working out with Tony but as long as this only continues through volunteer workouts I guess I can't complain.

Why do you want to give him the bank already?

He should sign the tender, get back to the Ranch and then work on deal.

Sitting out in L.A. going to lunch with reality stars while avoiding his teammates who are working out at the facility only makes me want Jerry to let him play out the season on the RFA deal.

He goes off again in 2010 he still won't be able to leave.

Then he will be completely deserving of a monster deal and the Cowboy can franchise him if neccessary.

Broaddus makes the great point in his thread.

You work hard, don't screw around and are worth the money then Jerry pays you. He's never been known as a cheapskate who doesn't appreciate his vets. And he never lets the talent that was farmed in Dallas get away.

I feel the same. I fear he's already coming down with a case of Diva.

Hate to say it, but I agree. Hopefully we're wrong.
The media was so quick to make him out to be the second coming and shower him with coverage/interviews it could easily have happened.

RW11 is paying Austin to chill in LA so Roy can get some extra reps with Tony. Roy is also secretly drawing up some new plays with Tony to use next season.

"What do voluntary mean..."

I'm *shocked* that good posters are actually worried about Miles Austin becoming a diva. This might quite literally be the last thing on my list of off season concerns.

It's the offseason. It doesn't take long for two players who know each other very well to connect. Austin's had three years of catching passes from Romo.. I'm not worried at all. I'm sure the coaches told him what they want him to work on...

Cutting him is too good.

Jerry should send The Buehler to physically abuse him.

Some of our fans worry about some of the most ancillary things. It most be frighting to worry about every lurking shadow regardless of how bright the sun is shinning.
