A lot of times we've heard kickers relate their motion to a golf swing. After watching David Buehler tee off at the team's sponsor appreciation tournament at Cowboys Golf Club in nearby Grapevine on Wednesday, one should hope he's better at kicking than swinging a driver.

After working with kicking coach Chris Boniol this off-season, Buehler does report progress on his field goals percentage.

"It's going good," Buehler said. "Chris has helped me out a lot. When I came in here I had progressed leaps and bounds from when I started. I'm definitely lucky to have him as a coach; he's gotten me on the right track and I'm confident in my kicking. I've been kicking twice a week and everything's going smooth.

"We changed some stuff up fundamentally. Just getting comfortable and not having to think about it, where it was second nature, that was the thing at the beginning. Now I'm used to what he's been teaching me and I've been doing it routinely, it's good."

Punter Mat McBriar has been holding for Buehler during the off-season program. Wade Phillips said the team didn't want to have to use Tony Romo in that job again this year, though they know the quarterback can do it.

"McBriar's been working on it and everything's good," Buehler said. "We're good to go, the operation's looking good with L.P. (Ladouceur), McBriar and me."

Look forward to seeing him this pre season. If he can sail through the pre season hitting his kicks under the micro scope he will be under I think he will do just fine.

I feel bad about McBriar being blamed for the kicking woes. He may not be quite as good as Romo but I didn't think he was responsible for Folk's misses.

116 yard field goals are going to be amazing to see

I do. At least partly. Folk had his own issues, but McBriar was struggling as a holder, too. McBriar has had problems as a holder in the past as well and was replaced at that time. Two bad things came together and the results were poor in field goal attempts.

Wonder if they will keep Bonoil (sp?) on as a full time kicking coach. We used to have Hoffman but that ended when Bill came so I wonder if they go back to having a kicking coach on a regular basis again.

It is true. I was the holder for my high school team but played both ways as well so they took me off and put in another guy at holder. His holds looked perfectly fine to me, but the kicker didn't trust him b/c he wasnt comfortable with him holding and couldn't kick anywhere near the uprights. A few weeks of misses and I was right back to holding and he was nailing fg's again. He had 4 misses for the year, all 4 were when the other guy held. I don't think I'm any better then the other guy was, but the kicker trusted me to get the timing down and had no problems kicking it.

Kicking seems to be very mental. As seen by plenty of kickers, once you lose your edge it's gone. See Vanderjagt. We waited to long to put Romo back in at holder, and Folk never trusted McBriar. After a few misses the fact that he has a different holder stops mattering, b/c now he is worried about his misses as well.

I don't think the problem was ever McBriar's holds.

Let's hope Boniol is also giving him some pointers on tackling and hitting. That Boniol was one mean S.O.B.

Can Kitna, after 10 odd years, not learn how to hold? He hasn't done that? To me, that's part of the back up QB's job description.

Yeah our drives stall within our own 20 and he'll still be knockin' em through the uprights :D

Best to keep Romo away from Buehler, he could lose a few fingers.

What is Buehler doing playing golf?? Doesn't he know that it is unacceptable to do anything other than practice football???

/end sarcasm

Valid stuff, 'Paint'....but you know how Bill was with his people and all. If something was simple, it put intensity to his own views and control. I'm thinking that very issue lost the kicking game for Dallas...and a steady imput to someone on the heartbeat of development around kickers. Dallas didn't have to search for sources of untapped legs when Hoffman was in the staff. He knew who was interested as well as who he was interested in working.

Me, I like Bonoi added to the staff. If Buehler nails some game changers this upcoming season, then he'll be a Cowboy Staffer quite a while, as will that slot on staff.

guys with the best hands on the field? WR. Don't know why we don't find a receiver to hold--especially RW

Hoffman was good at finding cheap kickers that were decent but that was all. If he was so great why has he not been in great demand? Where are all the great kickers he has produced?

How about picking up JeMarcus Russell to be our holder? I think he could learn to do this and resurrect his career.

:laugh2:

You would like to have the backup QB do it but that is not always the case, even in the 90's we had Jay Novacek holding on FG

Do we get extra pts for kicking RW through the uprights? :D
