Buehler Winning Phillips' Confidence

Wade Phillips didn't call an end to the kicking competition -- which basically means David Buehler vs. the field (available free agents) -- but it's clear the second-year veteran is winning Phillips' confidence. He has made six of seven attempts in two preseason games, missing only from 49 yards (way wide left).
"I think he's looked awfully good," Phillips said. "He kicked six field goals in two games already and really could've won both games. This last game I thought he really hit the ball well. It's partly confidence and it's partly just going through it."
Buehler now gets a chance to kick outdoors for two weeks. The impressive thing about his training camp is that his kickoffs haven't suffered. In fact, you can argue they've improved.
Buehler was 4-for-4 on touchbacks Thursday night and was able to kick deep to the left, a facet he's addressed with consultant Chris Boniol. In addition to field goals, his objective is to break last year's league-leading and single-season franchise record 29 touchbacks.
"The way I'm hitting the ball these days, I should blow that out of the water," Buehler said.
