It’s a good thing he knows that more than anyone else. For some players, it seems like they have to be reminded sometimes just how important an opportunity is, and in some cases, have to be pointed the opportunity in itself.
That doesn’t seem to be the case for Bobby Carpenter. He knows Thursday’s game against the Raiders is the first step in getting his career turned around in the right direction. And that isn’t to say his three-year career is in the ditch or anything. But we all know, including Carpenter, that a first-round pick MUST contribute, preferably that first year. If not, he needs to be doing something big by the second year and of course, the third.
So here we are in his fourth season and we haven’t seen anything from him. He should thank the Cowboys for giving him this chance to shine, and personally, I think he will.

Fortunately, if he does, the “bandwagon” cops won’t be coming after me. I’ve said all off-season the Cowboys need to just let Carpenter do his thing, quit trying to move him back and forth from inside to outside. Just let him play inside and be the nickel backer. So far, that’s what he has done and in practice, he’s looked pretty good. Then again, it’s practice.

“I know this is a great chance for me to get out there and continue what I’ve done all summer,” Carpenter said. “I think I’ve had a pretty good camp, but I need to play well in the games. That’s what’s most important.”

Carpenter said he expects to play the first half and even into the third quarter Thursday night against the Raiders.
