It’s a good thing he knows that more than anyone else. For some players, it seems like they have to be reminded sometimes just how important an opportunity is, and in some cases, have to be pointed the opportunity in itself.

That doesn’t seem to be the case for Bobby Carpenter. He knows Thursday’s game against the Raiders is the first step in getting his career turned around in the right direction. And that isn’t to say his three-year career is in the ditch or anything. But we all know, including Carpenter, that a first-round pick MUST contribute, preferably that first year. If not, he needs to be doing something big by the second year and of course, the third.

So here we are in his fourth season and we haven’t seen anything from him. He should thank the Cowboys for giving him this chance to shine, and personally, I think he will.

Fortunately, if he does, the “bandwagon” cops won’t be coming after me. I’ve said all off-season the Cowboys need to just let Carpenter do his thing, quit trying to move him back and forth from inside to outside. Just let him play inside and be the nickel backer. So far, that’s what he has done and in practice, he’s looked pretty good. Then again, it’s practice.

“I know this is a great chance for me to get out there and continue what I’ve done all summer,” Carpenter said. “I think I’ve had a pretty good camp, but I need to play well in the games. That’s what’s most important.”

Carpenter said he expects to play the first half and even into the third quarter Thursday night against the Raiders.

I hope he can turn it around; he has been a very big disappointment thus far especially since we used a 1st rd pick on him. He may never live up to the 1st rd pick but at this stage he needs to start producing and helping this team.

I don't know, I beg to differ there. When he played in Seattle playoff game, he looked like a great pickup. Ever since Wade tookover, he looked like a bust. So not sure who is at fault, probably both, but he just hasn't fit into Wades scheme of things for a whatever reason.

He probably would have been a very good 4-3 LB, like quite a few noted.

Ahhh...the ever effective incentive of a second NFL contract is at work here.

Anything from Carpenter at this point would be a plus. He's managed to stay on the team up until now because he was a high draft choice. He's had as much of an opportunity as anyone. He simply hasn't gotten it done and there's no one to blame but himself.

There's a reason his own team mates called him "Barbie", and it's not because he didn't fit in Wade's scheme.

I'm pulling for Carp though, IF he plays well, I'm still not even sure we'll resign him.

That's just people grasping for an excuse. There's no reason he'd be better in a 4-3 than a 3-4. His problem had nothing to do with scheme.

Wade has enough defensive experience to know if a player can play and perform his duties as expected...Carpenter is still a member of the Cowboys and I'll be hoping he does well and can contribute on defense. Sometimes its difficult to face the truth, especially when you've spent a first round draft pick on a player........

Agreed. Yet I am pulling for Barbie, hopefully this will be the season that he sheds his unflattering nickname.

Agreed. A football player is a football player. The only scheme that would help a football player who's afraid of contact is a flag football scheme.

We're with you Carp. Let's see what you can do.
Include me in that "We".... but it's probably a lot smaller than you think.

Uh, you'll have to forgive me, but I'll need to see it to believe it.

Yeah because TO tried to haze him in his second year and Carp told him to stick it in his ***. The primadonna didn't like it so he started this.

And its nice to see more people getting on the Carp bandwagon. I'm not typically one for patting my own back but I've been behind him for two years now.

I was laughed at when I said he should get credit for not pouting and working his butt off on ST as well as pointing out that Stewart/Wade mismanaged him.

It is kind of irritating to think they are counting on getting anything from Carpenter. It seems like it is just as futile as going with Brad Johnson last year in my opinion. Carp hasnt shown anything for multiple years now.
