Cowboys Won't Be Signing Larry Foote
Posted by jellis at 4/28/2009 5:00 PM CDT on truebluefanclub.com

Let's just try to cut this one off at the pass. The Cowboys aren't signing Larry Foote, who will soon be released by Pittsburgh.

A starting middle linebacker in the Steelers 3-4 for two Super Bowl teams, Foote has some years left in the NFL, at just 28. But the Cowboys addressed their linebacking corps pretty heavily on Sunday, and there's no way he'll be an option here.

The email questions asking whether Foote would sign with the Cowboys are already pouring in, as they do whenever a free agent with a recognizeable name is released. But we can nip this one in the bud right now:

Top pick Jason Williams will be an inside linebacker, as will sixth-rounder Stephen Hodge. The Cowboys wouldn't draft those guys and then go out 48 hours later and sign a free agent.

Throw in a couple veterans the Cowboys have at the position - Keith Brooking and Bobby Carpenter - and there's no room for Mr. Foote.

I think the Dallas media are hacks, but I wouldn't wish the incessant emails asking about every free agent coming to Dallas or not on them

or anyone

That would be interesting. Detroit plays a 4-3. Although it does have a lot of under fronts, influenced by the Bear 46.

It would be interesting to see ifhe could help make Detriot better on defense. It wouldn't be a bad pick up for them if he has no issues converting from a 3-4 linebacker to a 4-3.

My thinking is that it's less of that and more a case of them visiting places like this (although they'd never admit it).

A forum like this is a wealth of information for these guys and saves them (like us) a lot of work tracking down information.

I would dump Barbie in a minute and pick up Foote. At least Foote has started in his career. barbie is worthless now that we have improved our ST's.

I am with ya....I hate to hear we are stocked at the position. We have Ware, James, Ellis(for now), Brookings and a bunch of hope. Always room for competition, especially proven commodities.

I can't believe the Lions scored Follett in the 7th. The guy didn't have the tangibles like the USC trio, but asides from Rey Rey this guy was the best LB in the Pac.

I figure Foote would play middle in that defense.

That's really the first I heard that Hodge is going to play ILB.

Had we not signed Brooking already...I'd take a serious look at Foote, who I'd probably prefer
