DeCamillis, the Cowboys' new special teams coordinator, sustained a fracture of one of his cervical vertebrae (C-7/T-1) in Saturday's collapse of the team's indoor practice facility.

Chuck Carlton E-mail News tips

The Cowboys just sent a short e-mail update on special teams coach Joe DeCamillis, one of those seriously injured in Saturday's indoor practice facility collapse.

Here's the statement:

"Joe DeCamillis underwent successful surgery today at Parkland Hospital to stabilize fractured vertebra in his neck. He remains in stable condition and should be released from the hospital later this week."

Woo hoo! He'll be better in no time! :star: :star:

Regular human beings are usually on a little bit of a longer time frame than athletes, we expected Romo's pinkie to un-break itself in two weeks, chances are we're talking 4 - 8 months before he's completely back to normal

Luckily coaching isn't exactly a high impact job, so he may be able to work even before he's completely healed.

Glad the surgery went well though, I'm sure he's questioned why he came to Dallas in the first place a few times in the last couple of days.

My grandfather had a similar surgery March 9.

He's been out and about as to the best of his ability (he suffers from Parkinson's, which led to the fall that hurt him in the first place) in recent weeks.

I think if the rehab goes well, Coach will be back by the start of training camp at the worst.

Great news. Hope he has a speedy recovery.

My aunt went through the same thing and she was back at her job in a few weeks after some rehab. Really good to hear he'll be OK.

Unless he is going to hold a grudge against the team, I suspect he will be back as soon as the next minicamp. He may have to be in a wheelchair but I wouldn't put it past him to want to be there. He certainly won't be 100% but unless the doctor has him on bedrest I bet he'll be back at work sooner rather than later.

I've been thinking the same thing. I hope that ultimately the good times Coach De has with the Cowboys outweigh the bad.
