DC.COM Blog: Faulk’s Ware-Freeney Comparison Is Off

If you watched the Top 100 Players show on NFL Network and caught DeMarcus Ware on the set, then you probably saw what seemed to be a little tense exchange between the Cowboys’ Pro Bowl linebacker and Hall-of-Fame running back Marshall Faulk.

Maybe it’s just me, not sure if anyone else thought it was odd the way Faulk went out of his way to tell Ware that he didn’t deserve his No. 12 ranking, especially at the expense of one Dwight Freeney, who was picked waaaaay down there at 15.

For starters, it was weird because Ware was in the studio with Willie McGinest, Jay Glazer, Jamie Dukes and the host Lindsay Soto. Then on a TV screen off to the side via satellite, there’s Faulk who jumps in and says “with no disrespect” to Ware, but politely tells him he didn’t deserve to be higher than Freeney.

Nothing shocking here.....I'm not one to buy into the typical Cowboys bias crappola, but Faulk has NO LOVE whatsoever for anything wearing the star. He's still butt-sore from Roy Williams and Ware putting him on the wrong end of the highlight reel.

I have a lot of respect for Freeney but I can't help but notion Freeney get a lot of help from Robert Mathis who has been near or over double digit sacks since 2004 season. Ware has not received much help and yet still is putting up more sacks than Freeney. I just think it is easier to put up good numbers when the offense has to account for more than just 1 guy.

Marshall Faulk has never let facts get in the way of a good agenda.

And his bosses need to take his clear bias into consideration when evaluating his position within an ever-increasing pool of ex-players looking to get into television.

Plenty of on-air personalities dislike the Cowboys, but few make it as obvious as Faulk does, and fewer still do it at the expense of the truth.

Honestly, I think that's why they didn't have Marshall in studio, yet brought him in via satellite. It still lets him get in his shot at the Cowboys, yet not having to deal with the possibility of some really bad blood brewing in the studio itself.

Yeah, I blame Faulk, but I also blame NFLN, because I think it was a set up.

I would go on to say that they hate us more than they hate their own divisional rivals and our own divisional rivals as well. It borders down to obsession. I don't understand it. We barely have any history against them. So what if there Cowboy fans in Northern Louisiana. Why are they obligated to root for the Saints?

Saints fans have always been in the Cowboys wake. Dallas gets as much or more coverage in Louisiana then that scrub of a team. Especially so when Faulk was growing up.

Faulk is off period.

I have respect for Freeney as a pass rusher. That said, Ware has more sacks than any player in the game since 05'. Freeney however, doesn't even lead his own team in sacks since 05' ... Mathis does.

Additionally, Ware is a 'complete' player ... being very good against the run and solid in coverage as well. Freeney has never been known as a good run stopper. He typically doesn't have more than 35 tackles in a season, and posted just 25 tackles in 16 games last season. By contrast, Jared Allen (also of course a traditional 4-3 RDE), had 60 tackles last season and ranks 2nd to only Ware in sacks since 05'.
