There’s been a change in the Crescent City. Whereas last season the Saints ranked third in the league in interception rate, but 25th in yards allowed and 20th in points allowed, this year they rank fourth in the league in yards allowed per game (291.7) and fourth in points (17.0).
They’re playing more like the 2009 Cowboys defense, following Wade Phillips’ philosophy that points, not turnovers forced, is what ultimately decides games.
“I think you see the same overall style,” Garrett said. “There are a couple of scheme wrinkles that are a little different, but I think that’s kind of typical of defenses from year to year. The thing we have to be ready for is their aggressiveness. They’re an awfully good defense.”
