The funny thing is, Hurd is TO's legacy. There are lots of negative things to say about TO, but he was a hard worker, and he instilled that in Hurd from the day they took the field together.

Who knows, maybe Hurd would be a hard worker anyway, but I bet if you asked him, he'd credit TO for taking him underr his wing.

Good point! I do remember Hurd taking pointers from TO during training camps of the past. He and TO spent time by themselves going over some fine tuning after practices.

Say what you want about TO, but he was indeed a hard worker. While I won't miss some of the sideshows, I will miss his work ethic.

I agree. I'm not a big fan of TO and never have been but I do recognize the man’s talent and his work ethic and if Sam Hurd has learned this and modeled his workout after TO's then that is a good thing.

We have 4 NFL caliber WRs.
That is very scary.

BUT... I think we can get away with that because we have two amazing Tight Ends and Felix Jones.

The caveat for me there and my fear is that Hurd, Austin and Felix were seriously injured last year.

So... I'd feel alot better if we jettisoned Stanback and Ogletree to sign a true WR as the 3rd guy. Someone proven and reliable as a pass catcher. Hurd/Austin would still play and certianly be core special teamers but the 3rd guy would probably just be a roster spot for 15 plays a game on offense. But that role would protect us against a WR injury. I just do not see Ogletree(as a rookie) or Stanback(who has an awful injury versus active play ratio) protecting us there.

I would cry no tears if we cut Stanback, but I'd like to see us keep Ogletree. If he hit the street, I think he would get snapped up in a heartbeat. I do agree that the injury bug looms large over the WR group as a huge concern.

Maybe I'm living in a fool's paradise, but the one area I'm most concerned about, depth-wise, is corner back.

There is some studs this year in College at the WR position that I would love to have on this team but this is most likely the year we have to take the best Offensive Tackle or Nose Tackle in the first round and just because we get one in [strike]the 1st[/strike] any round doesn't mean they will be any good.
Fixed it for you.

Reality is... these guys havent shown much and that was with "whatshisname" on the field. Imagine now?

I think Roy can be a REAL ASSET. Things can work out well for us there... but the others dont really instill much confidence in me.

Yup....Austin still has not proven he can catch the ball consistently and avoid injuries while Hurd hasn't proven an ability to beat starting corners. Until they do, there is no reason to feel confident about the wr depth on this team.

Didn't we think they would go heavy on the O-line this year? I sure did.

I didn't but I knew they wanted to. It just wasn't a good draft at those 2 positions because of where we drafted.

They were close to Unger but got outmaneuvered for him.

I am a draft geek but not enough that I'd swear to how good next year' OL crop will be so we'll have to wait and see imho.

Ogletree was an UDFA and as long as he prefers our practice squad to others I think we can keep him here. I do think he showed he can return kicks and they make him more iffy there but I just can't see this continued carrying of guys like Stanback to prevent losing them. Injuries occur and we need guys who can play the positions when that happens, not guys we do not trust or who we carry just to block other teams.

I do like Ogltree tho, do not get me wrong, I just fear with Hurd and Austin already on the roster as young relatively unproven guys we need a 3rd WR with skins on the wall. It may well come after week 1. And by then a lot of practice squads would be set so perhaps it makes it easier to keep Ogletree.

I don't think Ogletree would ever make it to the practice squad based upon what we have seen so far. As a retun man, his feet seem pretty quick, which allows him to hit an open hole a little bit better than a long strider like Stanback.

Hate is too strong. Most of them don't trust this group because they haven't put up huge numbers and the team has mountains to climb.

I really like what I have seen from Sam Hurd. He looks like a starting NFL receiver right now. If he can continue getting open and catching everything thrown his way, he will be on the field a lot, and probably more than Austin, as much as Crayton.

I think everybody knew there'd be a drop off in the talent level from Owens to the rest of the guys here. They weren't going to some how magically be way better than they were last year just because Owens was released.

That said, I do think guys are working harder. Hurd was impressive, running pretty good routes. Austin had an off game but has been working hard. Crayton...well haven't heard a lot about Crayton but he's been here long enough that we know what we get w/ Crayton: a possible #2 but (IMO) a solid/dependable #3.

Roy Williams really is the wildcard in this group. We all know his potential and now we'll see if he can come through.

I think if Miles Austin just stops smiling so damn much, he'll instantly be a better WR.

Outside of Crayton all of them have a history of injury problems.

I think right now most people are concerned with depth not at WR but on the OL.

I am concerned with both.
