Wide receiver Sam Hurd signed his one-year, $1.545 million tender on Monday, leaving Miles Austin as the Cowboys' only remaining unsigned restricted free agent.

The Cowboys retained exclusive rights to Hurd and Austin last Friday when the NFL restricted signing period ended. Austin has yet to sign his similar one-year, $1.545 million tender, but teams no longer can pursue him as a free agent. The Jets visited with Austin earlier this month but decided not to risk yielding a second-round pick to the Cowboys, the required compensation if the Cowboys decided not to match an offer sheet.

If Austin remains unsigned by June 15, the Cowboys would be allowed to reduce his qualifying offer, but both scenarios are unlikely. Austin figures to be an important part of the offense without Terrell Owens and could be in line for an extension at some point.

An ankle injury limited Hurd to three games last season, but the Cowboys valued him enough to give him the second-round level tender. When healthy, the 23-year-old Hurd has proven to be a steady backup receiver and good special teams player. In essentially two seasons, he has 24 catches for 389 yards (16.2 avg.) and one touchdown.

I was checking NFL Network on my blackberry, and there a scroll on the bottom saying that Austin and the Cowboys are working an a long term deal.

That's the only place I've seen this.

Go back a few days in both the daily zone and the fan zone, there were a couple articles posted about it.

heard Holt signed w/ Jax for 3yrs/$20mil. Talk about overpaid! Glad we didn't go looking there.

Hurd can be good if he can get away from those 3rd string CBs

Well hopefully Hurd has a nice year and hopefully Austin is able to do what they believe he will if they're going to give him a long term deal.

EP Loco...I dont know why I haven't thought of asking you, but how has Donald Buckram looked this spring? I played with him a year when I was a sophomore in HS.

He has blazing speed, im surprised he hasnn't gotten more PT...

Something tells me Dallas likes the upside with Austin more than with Hurd... I believe they'll reach a deal for an extension.

He was injured early in spring drills but is expected to be back at the start of camp. Even so he's probably the leading candidate for the starting job, so we should see a lot more of him this season. Good hard runner

There really is no need to sign Austin to a long term deal now. Make him prove himself as a starter before giving him big bucks. No one bit on the second round tender, so unless they really feel he is a star in the making, let it play out.
