First-Round Picks Won't Make First Practice
Posted by nickeatman at 7/26/2008 11:10 AM CDT on truebluefanclub.com

While the Cowboys were able to agree to terms with both first-round draft picks late Friday night, neither are here so far for Saturday’s morning press conference. In fact, cornerback Mike Jenkins might not make either of the two practices here today. Both Jenkins and Jones are flying into Oxnard, but the running back from Arkansas is scheduled to arrive in Oxnard just before Noon. He should be ready to go for the second practice.

Jenkins, however, might be making a Willis Reid appearance for the second session. Either way, the Cowboys will sign both players to five-year contracts and they should be good to go. Remember, both DeMarcus Ware and Marcus Spears missed the first day of practice in 2005 and it didn’t seem to bother either of them.

The Cowboys are just glad they will all be signed before the end of the day.

I seem to remember Spears hurting his knee pretty early on that season.

Felix Arrives; Jenkins On The Way

Posted by nickeatman at 7/26/2008 2:49 PM CDT on truebluefanclub.com

Cowboys running back Felix Jones has arrived here at training camp and is in the process of officially signing his five-year deal.

The rookie from Arkansas agreed to terms Friday night, as did cornerback Mike Jenkins. The two players share the same agent in Eugene Parker, who was able to work out deals for both players via telephone with the Cowboys.

Jones is expected to be in uniform for the afternoon practice.

As for Jenkins, he is expected to arrive in Oxnard around 3 p.m. (CDT) and might miss part of the second practice. There is a chance he could join the team in the middle of practice, but at least both players will be signed by the end of the day.
