Adams In Pro Bowl; Davis Backs Out

Posted by jellis at 1/13/2009 3:00 PM CST

Cowboys left tackle Flozell Adams has been added to the NFC Pro Bowl roster as a starter, replacing Seattle's Walter Jones who backed out because of injury.

Adams started all 16 games for the third straight year. This will be his fifth Pro Bowl in the past six seasons.

Leonard Davis was selected to his second Pro Bowl in two seasons as a right guard for the Cowboys, but has also decided not to play because of a foot injury. The injury is minor and will not require surgery.

Davis has started all 32 games in two seasons with the Cowboys. He was picked as a backup to NFC starters Steve Hutchinson of Minnesota and Chris Snee of New York. He is being replaced by Tampa Bay's Davin Joseph.

Four other Cowboys will be in the Pro Bowl. Tight end Jason Witten, center Andre Gurode, outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware and nose tackle Jay Ratliff were all selected as NFC starters.

I don't blame him. The Pro Bowl doesn't hold the interest as much as it used to. Why take a chance on further injuring what is right now a minor injury. Good decision.

And now we get to watch Flozell draw a false start penalty one more time for the road.

Anybody know if Colombo was one of the alternates at right tackle? He had as good a season as any of these other guys, I thought.

i always thought that if you got selected to the pro bowl and declined, you should still get it counted as a pro bowl. and players getting in because others backing out should get to go and play but not be counted as pro bowlers....eh...

What I want to know is what in the hell Flo did that warrants a pro bowl? You've got to be kidding me. The most penalized player in the league, and he didn't do a very good job at all either run or pass blocking. Defenses have figured out that you always line up your best speed rusher on Flo, and it has been working.

My condolences to the families of every other NFC tackle who must have died to make this a reality.

Has anyone actually watched Flo play this season? No way does he deserve to play in the Pro Bowl.

Flo was voted in because the refs need to keep their whistles warm.

How weak is the NFC with the tackle position when Flo made it ?
Reputation and popularity are more important and quality of play. Keep that in mind.

The Pro Bowl doesn't differentiate between right tackles and left, and Colombo wasn't one of the top three alternates at tackle. Adams was the second alternate (behind Jammal Brown), but two of the three tackles chosen for the game (Walter Jones and Chris Samuels) had season-ending injuries late in the year. The third alternate is David Diehl.
