And I’m not saying that we’re all dismissing the Cowboys’ third cornerback Orlando Scandrick, but maybe it’s because he was hurt this offseason with a broken finger, or maybe now that it seems settled that Mike Jenkins and Terence Newman are the starters, that Scandrick is getting lost in the mix a little bit.

He’s not forgotten, but just not being mentioned a lot.

Personally, I think Orlando Scandrick is going to have a breakout year. What does that mean exactly? Hard to say because he’ll still be the third cornerback. But that guy plays a lot in the nickel packages. He’ll be covering some of the top receivers in the slot position.

I’m going out there to say that not only will Scandrick have his best year of his career, but by the end, his name will be thrown out there as a possible starting contender. With Newman turning 32 this year and Scandrick having just one year left on his deal after 2010, it will certainly be discussed whether the Cowboys need to make some changes at the position.

But none of that will happen unless Scandrick has a good year and I think he will. Why? Because this guy stays hungry. He stays with that chip on his shoulder that makes him fast enough to stick with receivers and tough enough to bring down the running backs.

I really believe Orlando Scandrick is one of the more underrated players on this team and I’m expecting him to have a big season this fall.

One thing I ask of him.

Do a better job of handling the Giants' Steve Smith.

Nice piece and I couldn't agree more with Nick. OS is very good and handling that slot coverage is no easy task but he does it well. I can see him taking over for TNew. Luv the confidence he has...

With the Big 3 now in Miami..Orlando is back to being in the backseat

sorry, it was the first thing that came to mind...too much NBA talk lately

Scandrick has the toughest job in the secondary. Covering slot receivers is hard. Even Revis would have a tough time staying with guys on the slot with todays rules.

I think TNew should stay outside, I don't think he can cut the slot anymore. I think Scandrick should man that spot.

He seemed to play better as a rookie and regressed some last year. We need him to step up because he will play a lot.

He struggled early in the season, because he was battling Jenkins for the starting job. Once Jenkins won the starting CB, Orlando sole focus was covering the slot as the nickle back. His play became much better as the season went along.

I hope Nick Eatman is right, it would be great for the Cowboys if Scandrick has a good season.

Who? oh Orlando...Orlando scandrick...I forgot about him...what about him.
