Odd Man Out At Tackle Shaping Up

If and when this trade officially goes through, and it’s sounding like Monday will be the day that Bobby Carpenter and Alex Barron will swap teams, the offensive tackle position will start to take shape as well.

Now who knows exactly how Barron will fit in as far as competing with Doug Free at left tackle. It would seem that Free would start off as the guy, but then again, Barron does have 67 more starts than Free in his career, and has a 74-0 advantage in left tackle starts.

Either way, the other guy will probably be the swing tackle.
Now, the odd man out of the mix appears to be Pat McQuistan. He’s be around for four seasons now and has yet to make any impact at all.

With Robert Brewster and Sam Young figuring to be the fourth and fifth tackles, it’d be surprising if McQuistan isn’t moved before the team gets to camp.

If that happens, wouldn’t be surprised if Miami is an ideal destination, seeing that Tony Sparano coached him for two seasons.

As I posted in another thread, I don't see Barron beating out Free as the starting LT and is more likely going to be the active, game-day backup at both OT spots. Barron has a worse problem with penalties than Flozell had and I'd like to see that at an end thank you.

McQuistan is gone unless someone gets hurt. I also agree that Miami is a likely landing spot for him.

If we can get a conditional pick for McQ that would be great. More likely we'll play a little waiting game but ultimately just release him so he can sign elsewhere.

Will he be traded and if so what could we even get for him? a 6th or 7th?

We could trade him to the Rams for Bobby Carpenter!

Yeah, I can't see us moving him anywhere except to the curb. If Carpenter has this little value, McQ has none.

If Jerry Jones can move Pat McQuistin for a pick or player, I nominate him for GM of the Year.

trading Carp for another failed first rounder ... that is value

A conditional 7th at best. He won't be like to be active for any team in the league.

They already said that McQuistan is moving to guard.

I'm not sure why everyone assumes every player has trade value.

No, that's two teams dumping their failures on each other. There's hope, but neither player has value to the team trading him.

it is also two teams getting something they want back... in both cases you can argue the situation was bad for the player... Carp isn't a fit for a 3-4 and Barron...well, he played for the Rams

Hudson Houck already said a week ago that McQuistan was moved from Tackle to Guard.

Because all Cowboys players have trade value on this board. It is simple: You play for the Cowboys and your trade value goes up at least 2 or 3 rounds.:laugh2:

So was James Marten, right before he was moved out the door.

Deja' vu
