The Cowboys did the best they could to honor Texas Stadium at their new park in Arlington, one of the nods to the old building being the natural light that shines through during the day.

Texas Stadium's open roof was famous for the stark contrast of sunlight and shadow it created during daytime games. While the roof will be closed more often than not at Cowboys Stadium, there will still be plenty of light cast through the glass end zone doors.

Sunday's noon (CDT) kickoff against Atlanta will be the first chance the Cowboys have had to play a day game in the new stadium, so the players may have some adjusting to do to get used to their environment.

"We've got all that information as far as where the sunlight is," Wade Phillips said. The coach said it was a possibility the team could move practice to the stadium one day this week to get acclimated to the lighting difference.

Bobby Carpenter said last week that when the Cowboys have arrived for warmups while the sun is out, the light shining through the windows has created a glare, and a little difficulty seeing the ball at certain areas on the field.

Phillips also hinted last week the team could send new return man Allen Rossum to the stadium to get more accustomed to fielding punts. The team will be off Tuesday before returning to the practice field Wednesday through Friday.

UPDATE: Should the Cowboys practice at the stadium this week?

With kickoff at 3:15 p.m., the Cowboys will play their first day game at Cowboys Stadium.

I wonder if they should move one of their practices this week to the stadium to get accustomed to the surroundings. When they practiced at the stadium and for the warmups of the four games so far, the sun has been a factor. It might be wise to shift a session over there to see what the sun will be like during the game hours too.

Last Friday coach Wade Phillips said new return specialist Allen Rossum could go to the stadium to get used to catching punts under the video board. He has some experience because of San Francisco's visit in the preseason but why not take advantage of more time there now?

Just a thought.

UPDATE: Phillips said it was a possibility they could move a practice to the stadium this week

I asked Phillips if the sun could be an issue, too.

"Well, yeah it's different," Phillips said. "We'll know all that information as far as where the sunlught is. We're aware of all that. We have pictures. I don't know if we'll go that far but we had pictures of Texas Stadium as how it looked each time and we'll do the same thing here. If not pictures, then we'll have details of where we are."

Good football weekend.

Min @ Pittsburgh at 1pm.
Atlanta @ Dallas at 4pm.
Arizona at NYG at 8pm.
Phil @ Detroitington on MNF

I'm always baffled about how teams always practice on fileds other than the ones in their home stadiums. If it's grass then I can see why you would not want to rip up the sod; but when it's turf, like in Cowboys Stadium, why are we taling like it's a special case, or a big deal, that we might actually practice there? And even then we're talking about just maybe one practice with a "we'll see" attitude. We'll see? If I were the coach I'd argue to have as many practices as possible at the home stadium. Yet this is still not common league practice (no pun intended). I just don't get it. What am I missing?

I disagree with the first sentence. So do the Baltimore Ravens and the New York Giants.

I'm guessing they'd rather practice on grass. Even with the new artificial turfs, grass is still easier on the players' bodies. When Felix hurt his PCL, I was googling around and saw a powerpoint presentation of a study done by the NFLPA (I think it was), and there were *way* more of those injuries on turf as opposed to on grass.

Which is another of the many reasons I think the home stadium should be a grass field... But I didn't get a vote.

I don't think you grasped the meaning of what was written.

Josh Ellis was talking about the design of Cowboys Stadium incorporating certain design elements of Texas Stadium that allow for abundant natural lighting during daytime games.

Last I heard it was 3:15

Fox had a preview of their upcoming games and it showed the Cowboys having the late, headliner game.
