Road Practices Shouldn't Be A Distraction

Beginning Tuesday the Cowboys will load up buses and make the short drive to Carrollton to practice at Standridge Stadium.
They'll repeat the process for every practice this summer, and until the Valley Ranch fields have been re-sodded. But even though it's out of the ordinary to turn off-season teaching activities and mini-camps into road games, the Cowboys can't use the travel as an excuse. So far, they aren't complaining.
As defensive lineman Marcus Spears put it, the Cowboys ought to be used to this sort of thing. Their regular season schedules is usually among the league's most disjointed, and the constant media attention keeps the Cowboys locker room on its toes.
"We're football players. To be honest with you, I said it last year, I don't know what else can happen as a distraction for us," Spears said. "I mean since I've been here it's been amazing, and then you have this off-season with a building collapsing. So, I hope nothing's next."
The Cowboys picked Standridge and the indoor facility at Coppell High School as alternate practice locations last week.
"It's less than 10 minutes back and forth so it's not a hardship on us at all," Wade Phillips said. "If we can't handle that, we can't handle a lot of things."
