For most avid golfers, the opportunity facing Tony Romo on Monday would have been too much to pass up, the chance to qualify for a real PGA Tour event, the HP Byron Nelson Classic held right here in Irving.

Romo had advanced to the final qualifying round, but was forced to skip today's 9:57 a.m. tee time for the first day of Organized Team Activities (OTAs) at Valley Ranch. While playing competitive golf is obviously a passion of Romo's, he said it wasn't a tough decision to come to the voluntary practice instead.

"I don't understand why you would do something when you would rather do something else," he said. "This is about as fun as it gets - the first day back, you're here, a whole bunch of guys getting together. You get to see what kind of shape everybody's in, what we're going to be doing offensively, see how good the stuff I've worked on it.

"My coaches and teammates know I would rather not do anything else than this right here."

Romo will attempt to qualify for the U.S. Open on Thursday, after the week of practice has concluded.
