While a lot of other teams began signing their draft picks this summer (and in the case of Oakland, cutting them) the Cowboys have yet to ink their first rookie of 2009.

Not to worry, though. Typically the Cowboys finalize their rookie contracts in the days before camp. With the first practice still a week from Wednesday, there's still plenty of time to get the 12 draft picks' deals finished.

Last season Orlando Scandrick was the first rookie to agree to terms, just two days before the first practice in Oxnard, then Martellus Bennett, Tashard Choice and sixth-rounder Erik Walden followed suit the next day. First-rounders Felix Jones and Mike Jenkins missed the first two practices of camp.

The Cowboys shouldn't have much of a problem this season without a first, or even a second-round pick to sign, since those involve more money and thus more give and take in negotiations. Contracts for late-rounders are slotted to allow teams to fit in their allotted rookie pool, which makes for less haggling.

With 12 rookies to sign, though, the fax machines at Valley Ranch should start heating up soon.
