It was a topic of conversation last offseason and is likely to be one again this offseason, despite having three years left on the $45 million extension he signed in 2008: Will Roy Williams be back next season?

Williams has heard the chatter. But he feels he has made the most of his opportunities this season in the passing game as well as excelled as a blocker. He’s said he’s optimistic he’ll be back and would “love to retire a Cowboy.”

Sure, why not? And let's extend Barber's contract while we're at it.

I'm glad he's finally starting to gel with Tony but it's not gonna happen Roy.

I see him coming back till we know Dez is fully healthy and has proven more durable; to a lesser extent till Dez is ready for a new contract.

I see Brooking coming back for a similar reason in Lee's case.

But if he doesn't come back, who else will average under 3 receptions for 40 yards a game? I mean, how do you replace that? He's had a MONSTER year!!!

Austin will need to learn how to catch, and Dez will have to stay healthy.

I keep Roy for depth purposes. He wants to be a Cowboy, let it happen.

I've seen nothing from Dez this season that leads me to believe he'll play all of 16 games next season. I hope i'm wrong but with how physical he plays injuries will be a big part of his future I believe and I just have no confidence in a receiving core of Miles and Ogletree/or Hurd. I don't think we have a choice but to bring Roy back.

Well as of right now I have no faith in Hurd or Ogletree to even put up 20 yards a game.

They both need to be doing that regardless.

Bingo. I have no problem continuing to mix and match the three of them, with Bryant and Austin getting most of the opportunities, of course.

I see no need to dump a good player just because he's not at the top of the depth chart. If the salary cap demanded it, that would be one thing. Otherwise, there is no good reason to get rid of Williams and weaken our depth.

He'll be back im sure.

People don't seem to understand how important WR depth is, especially a guy who loves playing here, is a good teammate, and has finally developed a rapport with the franchise QB. He's a great red zone weapon when used correctly and with Dez ahead of him, we need quality depth at the position in case one of the starters would go down with a serious injury.. knock on wood. Can't be going the entire season with a rookie number 2 WR, or even worse..

Sam Hurd :laugh2:

no thanks.

is that kenny tate in ur sig pic. I'm hoping we pick him in the 2nd round or 3rd depending on how he test at the combine. I think he is taylor mays with better ball skills.

I hope we can do some trades (players) to acquire another 2nd round draft pick or drop down in the first round and take one of the lineman and then grab him in the second or one of the top safety prospects that has speed and love to hit but is also smart.

Tell you what, if Jerry can't find a guy to do that for a lot less money this off season, I think we should all kick faith out the window for 2011 (assuming there is a season), because we're not exactly talking about amazing production here. :(

After the first 6 games of the season (before Romo went down) Williams was on pace for about 55-60 catches for about 850-900 yards and 12 or 13 TD's.

His production went down after Tony went out, but you don't just cut guys who have developed a rapport with your franchise QB like that. He was Tony's go to guy in the red zone and was very productive for us. He's also been a great teammate, and has been great blocking for us as well.

You need quality depth in the NFL and you arn't going to get what Roy brings us from a rookie in their first year, or from Sam Hurd. No reason to get rid of him when he wants to be here and has worked hard to develop that chemistry with Tony.

If Roys contract doesn't hamper us from being able to improve the team in other areas than why should we cut him?

It's not like he'll start over Dez next season.
