Senior Bowl: Day 2 In Mobile

Between practices here in Mobile, Ala., where the North team has wrapped up the morning session. The South team starts their single workout soon, featuring guys like West Virginia's Pat White, Texas' Quan Cosby, USC's Rey Maualuga and Ole Miss' Michael Oher.

Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips declined interview requests again this morning, and the entire coaching staff has been relatively quiet this week. Phillips was active during practice, however, scouting the entire field. He did spend significant time watching the North's defensive linemen, so take that for what it's worth. The Cowboys have decisions to make regarding free-agent linemen Chris Canty and Tank Johnson.

Hoping to speak with Jerry Jones again this afternoon. One player we'll keep an eye on is White, who wants to play quarterback at the NFL level. The Cowboys could decide to draft a young quarterback in the later rounds and groom him as a backup to Tony Romo.

Wow, a 3-4 guy who is spending his time watching D-line players. What a freaking revelation.

Considering we may lose a D-lineman in FA it should not be a shock.

I hope he is eyeing Defensive players to help shore up "his defense" next year.

Good, this is the kind of thing I like reading. I think the dufus is a pretty decent personnel man, especially on defense, so I'm happy to see it. With Canty likely gone, we can use at least one DL.

He needs to keep a close eye on the linebackers, too.

I'm sure he will be looking at a lot of players on both sides of the ball

Considering that 50% of the positions in a pro 3-4 D are filled by college D-line guys it should be even less of a shock

He def. needs to look at LBers, like you said, also....

We have Ware, James.... and an aging Ellis.

After that, its pretty bare.

Both ILB and OLB are needed.

We need an ILB, OLB, NT, and Safety, IMO.

And possibly a 34 DE in case Canty isn't re-signed.

And depending on FA, the ILB, DE and Safety may need to start.

That's no easy chore.

Yep, we need maybe three LBs next year. I'm pretty pumped about it.

And like David said... At least one good safety, too.

Check out the draft zone. Lot of other reports in there along these lines.
