Let's take stock of this position again, now that the Cowboys have taken Josh Brent-Price -- the only defensive player in the supplemental draft -- in the seventh round.
The Cowboys want competition at every position, even if it's at the backup spots. Defensive line is a great example.
Six rotation players are back, and it's a close-knit group that plays for each other. But the Cowboys have developed some young talent there, and not everyone will play as much as they'd like.
Rotation ends Jason Hatcher and Stephen Bowen will push for more playing time. And Thursday's seventh-round supplemental pick, Josh Brent-Price, adds to that pool.
At 315 pounds or so, he's nose tackle-sized and was productive at Illinois. Junior Siavii did a nice job as Jay Ratliff's backup last year, but remember he's on a one-year deal like several fellow linemen: Hatcher, Bowen and starter Marcus Spears.
Got to keep finding good young players because it's hard to see all four of them coming back next year, depending on the new CBA structure. Can't pay everyone.
Brent-Price, seventh-round pick Sean Lissemore and Marcus Dixon also are candidates to earn a final backup job. Rookie free agents Lorenzo Washington and Junior Aumavae have ability, too.
This is a solid group going to San Antonio.
