One week of Organized Team Activities to go, as the Cowboys wrapped up Week 3 today. Here's what we saw and heard out at Standridge Stadium in Carrollton.
* First, an attendance report. Missing from practice were: Bradie James (honeymoon) and Nick Folk (hip surgery) and Isaiah Stanback (knee surgery). Rookies Victor Butler and Mike Mickens are still at school fulfilling academic requirements. The Cowboys gave eight players a day for rest and recuperation. Wade Phillips wouldn't fully go into details about every player, but did say leg issues were the biggest problem. Sitting out were Stephen Hodge, Courtney Brown, Sam Hurd, Justin Rogers, Terence Newman, Deon Anderson, Rodney Hannah and Miles Austin. Jason Hatcher and Kyle Kosier continued their rehab assignments with trainers.
* The Cowboys took a look at the Wildcat offense, or "Razorback" as Wade Phillips called it. Patrick Crayton was at quarterback, and Felix Jones was the motion back.
* Jones also worked at fielding punts, something he never did in college. The inexperience showed, as he dropped at least one, and looked unnatural on others, catching the ball over his head. Also fielding punts were Patrick Crayton and rookies DeAngelo Smith and Kevin Ogletree.
* With Bradie James gone, Bobby Carpenter and Keith Brooking filled in as the nickel linebackers.
* A day after Terrell Owens was interviewed on 105.3 FM The Fan in Dallas, Jerry Jones said he is interested in what Owens has to say about the Cowboys because the two have had good communication and Owens is "credible" to Jones, though not necessarily regarding his recent Twitter post about being run out of town by Jason Garrett and Tony Romo.
* Gerald Sensabaugh appeared to be moving around well at the starting strong safety spot, and made a nice jump to break up a pass intended for Jason Witten across the middle.
* Tony Romo appeared to have corrected his flutterball problems, though he still wasn't at his most accurate on several throws.
* Mike Jefferson, signed off the street last week, got a few reps with the first team offense in multiple receiver sets. His rocked-up arms and upper body fill out the No. 81 jersey pretty well.
Much more to come.
