Wade Phillips can’t win for losing these days. He was heavily criticized for not talking to the media for the past two months, and then when he talked the past few days at the NFL owners meetings, he was heavily criticized for what he did say.

What’s a coach to do?

If it were me, and I’m thinking you, too, quit being such a nice, accommodating guy. Killing reporters with niceness is not working. So is being so politically correct with everything he says. Might as well start keeping score. Few got away with such personal attacks when Jimmy and Bill were here. And the verbal sparring didn’t take place. Each just set that tone. Walk-offs were well timed. That’s what Wade must do otherwise this is going to be a long season for him.

Also, while we’re on all this, just once I want someone to say Terrell Owens was released because he was such a controlling, self-centered, ego-maniacal player who had to make everything about him and more difficult for his quarterback. Sure he worked hard. Sure he played hard. Sure he appeared to be a good teammate. Sure he had good numbers.

But at what price, both tangible and intangible? There was the team and there was Terrell. And even if I’m wrong, who else out here would you make that mistake about?

Come on, bottom line is if the Cowboys are right about Roy Williams, this team can go 9-7 with T.O. as they did in 2006 and 2008 or without him as they did in 2005. And who knows, they might even go 10-6 and actually make the playoffs.

To think it’s still only March.

My faith in Wade is outlined below.

I'm not a registered member of truebluefanclub.com, so this question is for CBZ members who are. Has Spagnola received heavy criticism because of his Terrell Owens' comments over there?

Wade's problems are a lot bigger than his relationship with the media.

He's never won a playoff game. His current team hasn't won a playoff game under him, nor in the decade prior to his arrival. His team was the NFC super Bowl favorite and didn't even make the playoffs last year.

He has a history of lukewarm results, and that's the problem, not how he treats reporters. And Spagnola knows it.

I am so sick of Mick bashin Owens every chance he gets. I was not a particular fan of Owens... but I am sick of Micks excuses for this teams poor peformance, and Jerry just gift wrapped one for him. What better way than to blame the guys who arent here anymore... how about looking at whats really to blame about this teams poor performance instead of blaming the most effective offensive weapon that we "had"? Like, the lack of an offensive gameplan that could fool anybody? I think everyone has said that about Garrett... and, if you still believe Garrett is that good, then why wasnt he selected to one of the many HC positions available? NE didnt make the playoffs either, but their OC ended up with a HC job... one in which Garrett was never named on a short list in Denver... what about the Rams? Why didnt he get that job if he is this great Guru... its because Garrett was exposed this year.

It is pretty said, when we have the most talented roster in the NFL on the ofensive side of the ball, and a coach cant seem to make it work with the best pieces of a puzzle right there in place. Jerry did his job with getting Garrett the weapons, and he failed to even come close to doing his job... but we dont hear Mick lamb basting him, do we... no, Mick blames Owens, blames Pacman, blames Williams and Tank... they are pretty easy targets after all, arent they?

Now, the one real question I want you to answer for me Mick is this... If Garrett could not get an offense to produce when it had one the best receivers the game has ever seen, a man who attracted more attention than any of our other receivers definately will... then, how are we suppose to make the playoffs with receievers that have never (excluding Williams) amassed more than 800 yards in a single season... and thats only one... the others have never gone over 400 yards... Please tell me how this is suppose to work now?

I dont see it Mick... and after this year and another season down and out of the playoffs... you can blame Wade when Jerry ditches him too... he'll make an easy target because he will be gone, right?

We have real problems on this team that have yet to be adressed... it would just be a little more helpful if you would stop blaming people that arent here and were never as much of a problem as you like to try to make us believe. It excuses like yours that keep Dallas mediocre. And it also keeps Jerry thinking he's doing the right thing.

Wow... If I didn't know any better I would think I was sleepwalking and posting as t with on truebluefanclub.com at night while I should be resting.

I only looked at the first couple of pages but, for the most part, the various comments are a microcosm of the environment on this board.

Thanks WG. 13 pages. Some criticism. Some praise. And a little of both inbetween. Of course, that's fair enough, but there were at least four posters who labeled Mickey a "kisser", coward, ******, basher and last (but not least) someone who described his whole article as bull you-know-what. That seems right around the norm. :)

I think the city of Dallas will shake the Kennedy assassination before we shake TO.

Even that pic is telling. Every other player on the offense is leaning in and paying complete attention to the quarterback, but TO has to be different and hang back. I used to hate it when he'd start jogging out of the huddle before Tony had even finished calling the play.

That is correct as evidenced by the fact that a TO thread on this board is still king. Evidence is on the first page. One day everyone will move on and focus in on what remains in Big D.

Not that I'm inclined to defend him, but he did (briefly) huddle up.
