DC.COM Blog: What Cowboys Told Us On Saturday

I am indifferent to the Kitna signing I was actually hoping for Boller, but even though Kitna is 37, it isn't like he has been a 15 year starter he has only been a starter for about half his time in the NFL so the wear and tear on him shouldn't be too bad. Also at least he still has his arm and isn't a statue.

Actually Kitna is only 35

Where did this idea come from that older quarterbacks don't have to do as much work when they get to a new team? Maybe if Brad had done more work, we would have realized how awful he was sooner. Put Kitna through all the darn drills please

Anyone who was paying attention knew how bad Brad Johnson was in his final season with the Vikings. Evidently, that didn't include Jerry Jones.

Nice perspective. Teams with guys like Redman, McCown, Grossman, Hackney, Stanton, Flynn, Sorgi, Lemon, Thigpen, Carr, Ratliff, Walter, or Green are in much worse shape than us. Kitna is not a very good starter but as a backup with the amount of experience he brings to the table he is certainly in the top third of backups.
Yeah, I'd hate to be grooming a young potential starter like Carr, that would suck.

2. The thought of moving Henry to safety fulltime was more media driven than realistic. For those who listened, Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips said Henry would have to be a free safety, so he was no replacement for Roy Williams, who is a strong safety. And for those who were paying further attention, if Henry became a free safety, then Ken Hamlin would have to move to strong, and judging by the way he tackles, he’s no strong safety. There really was no easy fit.

Here's more news- Ken Hamlin is the worst contract we've ever signed a guy to.

Biggest waste of money in franchise history last yr. He was awful against the pass and the run. His best position would be "bench"

I am more disturbed by this idea that we have to have a 37 year old backup so they can get ready in a hurry or whatever. Someone needs to tell the teams with younger backups that they must be doing it wrong.

That's got to be one of the worst excuses I can think of for anyone to justify signing an older backup.

Kitna is just an insurance policy in case we do or even don't get a Rookie QB.

We don't want a Rookie on the field.

Ummm...Carr has had two shots to be a starter in Houston and Carolina (When Jake was out) and he sucked in both situations.

Sorry but Carr is never going to be anything but a backup and banking on grooming him into a starter would be silly.

And for the guy who said Garcia is 32...I'm pretty sure he's like 36, or somewhere near there. He's been around for a long while now and he was older than your average QB when he got into the NFL.

It's amazing to me that we are sitting here worrying about 2 million in dead money, while the Commanders just sign whoever they want for whatever they want.

Feels like baseball.

8. Finally, obviously the Cowboys don’t agree with all that media and fan perception Tony Romo needs someone to push him. Kitna has been signed as a backup, a microwave of a quarterback who can heat up in an instant without much practice.

Here is where Mickey lets you know he has his homer glasses on. Of course Kitna will push Romo. Who the hell does Mickey think he is? I think its clear that Jerry does agree with the fans and media about Romo.

You mean sucked like Kitna sucks with about the same rating. At least Carr showed some promise with the Giants recently, Kitna could never be our future, Carr or another yonger QB might have a chance. Typical win one for the new stadium move.

Future? Dallas is not looking to replace Romo. Tony did not get the contract he got because the team has no faith in him.

Interesting that Mickey doesn't consider himself part of the media.

...and, oh yeah, he was one of the top rated passers in the NFL last year, despite playing three games with a cast on his throwing hand.

Come on people, give me a break already. Romo is a star QB and we should be glad we have him.

It's obvious that some people are never happy.

First off David Carr is 29, so he isn't exactly really young anymore, and he has bombed terribily twice as a starter. I would MUCH rather have Kitna over Carr. In the past 10 years that Kitna was not a starter was when Cincinatti started Carson Parmer over Kitna in Cincy after Parmer's first year.

I agree. Dallas got Kitna because they needed a backup QB. Regardless of what fans say or think the Cowboys do have faith in Romo and are committed to him.

David Carr was run out of both Houston AND Carolina after being given a chance to start. You are all enamored with Carr after showing promise playing part of the last game of the season, while throwing a total of 11 passes?
