Burnett Makes Key Contribution on Special Teams

The Cowboys special teams has been pretty solid this season, and has shown much improvement from a year ago, particularly on kickoffs and punt coverage.

Sunday Cincinnati's Glenn Holt busted a long return, but Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said it was one of just three poor special teams plays (out of 28) in the game. He likely counted the onside kick the Bengals recovered and Holt's 46 yard return in the second quarter.

There was also Adam "Pacman" Jones running the wrong way and losing three yards on a first quarter return, so that makes four. The Bengals returned six kickoffs for 177 yards, compared to three returns for just 67 yards for the Cowboys.

It's easy to pick out the guys who are getting things done on coverage units, like linebacker Kevin Burnett, who has a team-high 12 special teams tackles. Justin Rogers has nine, Keith Davis has six, Orlando Scandrick has five and Bobby Carpenter has four.
