With the Cowboys beginning their preparations for Washington in earnest this aftermoon, it's hard to see the team bringing in any veteran players before the opener.

Generally the team attempts to sign any new additions to the roster in time to practice with the team a full week, but in remaining quiet on the waiver wire on Sunday, a day after roster cuts around the league trickled in, the Cowboys suggest they'll be quiet this week.

Now, the team could get active next week. As in years past, vested veterans on the roster for the first game of the season can have their entire base salaries guaranteed, if they so choose. If released later, the player can receive "termination pay" once in his career, even if he signs with another team...

Maybe not a veteran, but I just don't get how they aren't going to try to bring in SOMEBODY to play CB.

Looking at our roster, we now have only 3 true CB's...Newman, Jenkins, and Scandrick. If one of them goes down with an injury, even for a game or two, it would cause a significant disruption to our starting units.

Sure we have Ball to fill in as the 3rd CB if this happens, but then we need to take him out of his other starting job at safety in order to do so...Mike Hamlin then likely gets the call to fill in as the starter at that position, and I'm not sure if he's really ready to do so based on what I've seen, and what's been reported.

Based on Newman's history with injuries, this seems like a pretty big gamble with our secondary...Does anyone else have any ideas about how they may approach the depth issue if we choose to stay with the same roster?

Hopefully, they have a plan in place. They certainly know a lot more than I do, so I have faith they have something up their sleeve.
