Cowboys waive DB

Jerome Carter, a fourth-year safety out of Florida State who signed with the Cowboys as a free agent, is no longer with the team. The Cowboys waived him this morning.

That takes the roster down to 79, so the Cowboys are likely looking around for another defensive back to add a practice body. They're a tad shorthanded because Michael Hawkins, a fourth-year guy out of Oklahoma remains banged up.

How about a capable offensive tackle?

There a 'tad shorthanded' there too!

When we actually sign Robert Brewster does he take up a spot on the 80-man roster? At least until he goes on the PUP or IR list??

He will count until the first cuts then he's either on the inactive pup or ir.

Can't they do that immediately?

Then maybe the simply re-sign Carter?

Brewster Signs; Safety Carter Released
Posted by nickeatman at 8/5/2009 9:21 AM CDT on truebluefanclub.com

Third-round draft pick Robert Brewster arrived to San Antonio late Tuesday night and has officially signed his four-year contract, despite being out for the season with a torn pectoral muscle.

To make room for Brewster, the Cowboys waived safety Jerome Carter, who was working with the third-team defense. Carter, a former fourth-round pick of the Rams in 2005, has played 33 career games, but only five in the past two seasons. The Cowboys are obviously high on rookie safeties Mike Hamlin and DeAngelo Smith, who is also playing some cornerback.

As for Brewster, he joins the team mainly to continue his rehab with the team trainers.

By NFL rules, the Cowboys won’t be able to place him on injured reserve until the team trims the roster to 75, which won’t happen until after the third preseason game.

Answers that question.

And I was half-right.

They did bring in an offensive tackle....

They can't put Brewster on IR yet, but they can put him on PUP now, right?

Did anybody see the specifics of the contract in regards to money/length?
