Mick Shots -- Davis Likely To Sign On Wednesday
Posted by mickshot at 9/1/2008 6:30 PM CDT on truebluefanclub.com
* Since this was technically an extra practice on Monday, the Cowboys will delay the signing of special-teams ace Keith Davis until Wednesday, if everything goes as planned, buying them some time to decide just how to create a spot on the current 53-man roster. Rather than simply releasing a guy, the Cowboys might want to shake out the trade bushes to see if some team might want to give them something for the player who would end up on waivers. Just prudent business on their part.
* A few of the Cowboys players released on Saturday they did not re-sign to the practice squad were signed by other teams to their practice squads: DT Remi Aydole was signed by New Orleans, S Dowayne Davis by Kansas City; and OL Adam Stenavich by Houston. Also see where Baltimore brought in Todd Lowber for a workout, and after looking at backup QB candidates Todd Bouman, Chris Simms, Joey Harrington and considering Brooks Bollinger, reportedly agreed to terms with Harrington on Monday. Also, former Cowboys quarterback Drew Henson was signed to the Detroit practice squad. I hear Simms might be looking for more money than the Cowboys want to give for a third quarterback.
* Nickel linebacker Kevin Burnett returned to practice on Monday, and apparently did just fine since having his knee scoped on Aug. 15 to remove a lose piece of cartilage that broke off a bone spur. Fact of the matter is, the Cowboys were being very conservative with his return, wanting to make doubly sure he was ready to go for the opener, so weren't even tempted to play him in the final preseason game.
