* Here is why you particularly should like the free-agent signings of safety Gerald Sensabaugh and linebacker Keith Brooking: The Cowboys filled two positions of great need without breaking the bank or jeopardizing the salary cap down the line, assuming there still is one after this year. And because of that, their presence doesn’t preclude taking a guy at those positions high in the draft and allowing them to compete for playing time. Sensabaugh initially will be looked at as the starting strong safety, which will allow for a little less moving around of personnel in the secondary.
* Jon Kitna knew better than to even ask after signing with the Cowboys. See, for the last three seasons he has worn No. 8 with the Detroit Lions. Not officially retired here, but uh, like not available either for obvious reasons, No. 8 ranking right there with 12 and 74, and I’m guessing now 22, the only number in club history that will have housed two Pro Football Hall of Famers once Emmitt Smith joins Bob Hayes next year. So Kitna decided to return to the No. 3 he wore in Cincinnati. He will join Steve Walsh as the only non-kickers to have worn No. 3 in club history.
* Unless something unexpectedly lands in the Cowboys lap, I’d expect them to be rather quiet now in free agency, at least through the draft. And that does not bode well for Keith Davis getting re-signed at this point. The Cowboys are viewing him strictly as a special teams player, which means he could be a late pickup if he’s still available. Appears KD and KC still haven’t come together.
* Breaking News: T.O. is going to wear No. 81 in Buffalo. Seriously. Check out Buffalo News and ESPN. Move over second-year receiver James Hardy, he of 81 last year. Really gonna miss those days that every time Terrell Owens sneezes it's a headline. Wonder if Miles Austin or Sam Hurd want to arm wrestle for 81, they of the teen numbers.
