Putting Some Salt OnThis Peppers Dreaming

Let’s place a little common sense on this Peppers stuff, Carolina defensive end Julius saying the Cowboys are one of four teams he’d be willing to be traded to since it appears he wants out of Carolina.
First of all, if the Panthers get offensive tackle Jordon Gross signed to a long-term contract, which appears likely to happen today, then the Panthers are expected to franchise Peppers by Thursday’s 3 p.m. (CT) deadline with a $17 million tender. That also would buy time for the Panthers to continue negotiating a deal with their seven-year veteran or searching for a trade partner.
And thirdly, probably most importantly, I’m guessing the Panthers at least want one first-round pick for Peppers, and certainly one for this year’s draft. Uh, in case you’ve forgotten, the Cowboys don’t have a first-round pick in this year’s draft.
And while you might want to salivate over the thought of DeMarcus Ware and Peppers on the same defense, how do you think you would create enough cap space to extend Ware, who likely will become the highest paid defensive player in the NFL when all is said and signed, and then sign Peppers, who also wants to be the highest paid defensive player in the NFL? Two on the same team?
Get real!
