As December is finally here, it really doesn’t matter how daunting this schedule appears to be.
Three games against the division, coupled with back-to-back games against the Saints and Chargers. Yeah, that’ll be tough. Just like that last year’s schedule against four of the top-five defenses in the NFL was brutal.
But I thought Tony Romo had the best answer the other day when talking about the schedule, both last year and this year.
“It’s one of those thing too that you’re playing different teams in December, it plays a role,” Romo said. “If you play the Eagles, the Giants, the Ravens and the Steelers, it’s going to be a tough month no matter when you’re doing it…Does that give you an excuse? No, because you’ve got to go beat them. At some point, you’re going to have to beat them anyway to accomplish your goals.”
And that’s exactly right. See, that statement right there tells me that Romo is thinking Super Bowl. If he was thinking just playing well in December, or getting to the playoffs and finally winning a game, then he wouldn’t ever make that comment.
He’s thinking big picture, whether it’s realistic or not. I like it. Who cares if they have to play the Saints on the road? At some point, they have to get beat anyway.
I will say this, a few hours before the Saints play the Patriots. While I think New England will win the game, I believe the Cowboys have a better shot of beating New Orleans on the road if they’re undefeated. And if the Saints beat the Pats tonight, they’ll likely be undefeated considering they play at Washington next weekend.
