Ways to fix the Red Zone
Time for Witten

SAN ANTONIO - One of the best things about Jason Witten is that he'd never say this. So allow me.

But if the Cowboys really want to improve on their red-zone woes from a year ago, one solution is to rely on the guy who probably got them down there in the first place.

To me, Jason Witten needs to be utilized more when they get inside the 20...

I personally think that the amount of TD's that Witten had last year was in direct relation to Romo being more careful. Getting the ball to the TE at the goal line usually involves tight coverages and throws and taking a few chances.

Romo took a lot less chances last year than in prior and I think that is one place it shows up

I also thought they kept him in block more in the red zone last year?

Maybe someone who watched more game film than me can confirm.

I don't know for sure but it did seem like that, didn't it?

It sure did, whenever we're inside the five I always watch for the flat route Witten is so good at running. Seems like every team we could have exploited it he was pass protecting.

Sure looked that way to me.

And to me when you take away one of your own best weapons, it's advantage defense.

I agree with the original take. Use Witten more in the red zone.

For that matter, take advantage of all of the size mismatches you have.

Witten was actually open a lot in the end zone, for some reason Romo didn't look his way at those times.
