FRISCO, Texas – Asked if there will be any added motivation this week heading back to Minnesota, Jayron Kearse shook his head with an emphatic no.

How about any extra energy or excitement to play the team that drafted him back in 2016?

No, Kearse gave the usual "just another game" mantra.

One of the reasons he's played so well this season is because of that raw emotion, that fire he plays with that has not only made him one of the better players on defense, but a vocal leader as well.

"I'm just being who I am, and guys pick up on that," Kearse said of being a leader despite being in his first season with the Cowboys. "I've got to come in and continue to bring the energy because guys look at me as a leader."

Statistically, he's nearly the leader of the defense in tackles, entering the bye week with 35 stops, just one behind Anthony Brown.

Kearse is playing the safety position, but has also been used in what the Cowboys call "Big Nickel," which allows him to play close to the line of scrimmage on passing downs, similar to a linebacker.

This dude came out of nowhere and was a STeamer for crying out loud. He looks like one of our best defensive players now.

I did not know much about Kearse before joining the Cowboys. I like the energy he brings to defense and he seems like a really good fit for the team.

A gift from the Gods.

SMH ughh

please dont encourage Jerry to overpay another guy who played well in 6 games..this is how the jaylon smiths of the world get paid way above their paygrade..

we have history a few at Safetys, many at wrs, some Lbs and a few DTs way overpaid over one solid season..

He’s playing out of his mind

come on man...

Remember in TC the guys here who know everything saying we should cut him? LOL good times.

Yeah, those same people wanted Steele gone, and Brown gone, and Lewis gone.

Now, I wanted Jaylon Smith gone, and Lawrence gone, and Collins gone. :)

I really like this player. His versatility is a great tool for Quinn to have. He’s all over the sub-packages.

He and Gregory are the main re-signs to me. Although I'd like to have Neal back as well, he, Kazee, Urban, Watkins and LVE are players we can replace if needed. The players to build around on this defense are Lawrence, Gregory, Odighizuwa, Parsons, Diggs and Kearse (not necessarily in that order).
