IRVING, Texas – The Cowboys added a new name to their running back competition Sunday by trading for Seattle’sChristine Michael.

Dallas will surrender a conditional 2016 draft pick for Michael, who was a second-round draft pick in 2013 and has been fighting for playing time behind Seahawks All-Pro Marshawn Lynch.

It was long suspected that the Cowboys might try to address the running back position after the league’s deadline to meet the 53-man roster limit on Saturday. The trade gives them four running backs and a fullback on the current roster, as they kept Joe Randle, Darren McFadden, Lance Dunbar and Tyler Clutts at the deadline.

To make room for Michael on the 53-man roster, the Cowboys released defensive end Lavar Edwards, who made the initial cut on Saturday. That roster move brings the Cowboys down to 10 men on their defensive line. They released Ben Gardner and Efe Obada on Saturday, in addition to Edwards on Sunday.

So when Hardy returns, who is out. I know it's a ways off yet, and performance has a lot to do with it, at every position.
Wen Edwatrds was on the roster, for sure it would have been a DL. Still could be too. Bishop or T. McClain perhaps

IRVING, Texas -- For everybody expecting the Dallas Cowboys to add a runningback at some point before the 2015 season started, they got their wish on Sunday when Christine Michael was acquired from the Seattle Seahawks.

But a quick word of caution: Don’t expect Michael to be THE guy in the Cowboys’ backfield.

The move is more about insurance and depth.

The Cowboys gave up a low-round conditional draft pick for Michael, hardly a sign they will make a heavy investment on him from the get-go.

Perhaps there is still some concern about Joseph Randle's availability throughout the season stemming from an offseason arrest in Wichita, Kansas. He missed the team’s kickoff luncheon to attend to legal affairs, and the NFL could still look to punish him through the personal conduct policy at some point, if not by the Week 1 opener against the New York Giants.

Could be an injury by then that will make the choice easy.

Putting this in its own thread as it confirms Twitter and I don't want it buried in a 13 page thread.

Doing the same with my response. .lol

I always had faith they wouldn't let this train derail because of some stupid quasi rbbc configuration. They were starting to make me nervous though. For those that are against this move and just not voicing it.. you know... those of us that have turned away from any mention of bringing in another rb for weeks now . Trust that you will love Michael. The guy is trainable, bruises, blocks, makes ppl miss, and most importantly is is an all around good guy that happens to carry some swag with him.

A rbbc can work but not the way we were going in. It has to have two backs that can carry the load at any given time with a change of pace back mixed in. Now you have that with DMC, Michael, & Randle.

I love this. I really liked the kid coming out of the draft a few years ago but understood he was a bit over drafted & had maturity & injury issues. His running stule reminds me alot of early Demarco Murray.

He just has to be as good as DeMarco and, if I were following the droves of fans that criticize DeMarco at every corner, a caveman can do what Demarco did last year. So Michael is in good shape.

I am so glad that you got a new pet cat...you were worrying me for awhile. lol

I really hope you feel better now.

His contract is guaranteed for this year if he is on the roster for week one of the 15 season (not sure if that's today, tomorrow, or Tuesday). Any way about it he'll be on the roster, so his salary for the year will be guaranteed.

We will have to wait and see about that in 3, 2, 1.....
